Supposed to be frosty tonight - the original forecasts were for temps in the low-50's but now they're saying windy and mid-40's. Ugh! The games tomorrow and Sunday should be a lot nicer, from a weather standpoint.

Just to make sure there's no confusion - the game times listed above are Mountain Time.

That was too close for comfort, and in weather more suited for the Winter X-Games. I think Overton would have completed the game had he not given up an 0-2 single to a lefty swinger from UNM. Then Magnifico walked a kid on four pitches, with one out to go, who I think had no chance to make contact had he thrown strikes. Then John's only mistake was that balk with two strikes and OU still up 6-5.

But it sure was nice to see OU come back strong in the top of the 10th, then John breezed through the Lobo lineup in the bottom of the inning. Made the icy conditions worthwhile.

Cody Reine laid waste to Lobo pitching, to the tune of 10 total bases, in the Sooners' 10-5 at Isotopes Park Saturday night.

Reine hit a mammoth three-run homer to put OU up 9-2, in the fifth, and that pretty much ended the suspense that crept into Friday night's 7-6 win in 10 innings. He had three doubles, including two near-misses for homers, and went four-for-four in the game.

Steven Okert went six solid innings on the mound for the win. He overcame a slow start in the first, which saw the Lobos take their first (and to this point, only) lead of the weekend.

Max White and Caleb Bushyhead also had three hits, and Jack Mayfield's triple resulted in the eventual game-winning run in the fourth. OU put up three in that inning and four in the fifth to break it open.

It was fun later when I ran into the team at the local hangout, the Frontier Restaurant, after the game. They seemed like a really good bunch of kids, and I also got to meet a couple of the coaches. Sunny Golloway donated a signed OU cap to a fund-raiser that was held in '06 for a scholarship in the name of the previous Lobo coach's deceased son. I got that cap in the silent auction that day, and he seemed pleased to meet the person who paid for his autographed cap.

OU had a decent turnout of fans, but I think the weather kept the local alumni base home again tonight. It wasn't as bad as it was Friday night (over 10 degrees warmer and less wind). Some mouthy locals were on Reine about his waist-line, but they sure kept quiet after Reine launched that key three-run jack. About the time the ball landed somewhere out by Tucumcari, the hecklers were nowhere to be heard.

I also think Reine would have hit three dingers tonight, except for the cold. He just missed hitting one out in the fourth, to right-center, and his last at-bat was a screamer in the 8th that didn't quite have the carry to make it over the fence in the left-center gap. Bushyhead and White hit the ball hard all night as well.

Jonathan Gray and Jordan John were dominant today, even if the OU bats weren't this time. The series sweep was sweet. I wouldn't have predicted it, given that OU was the road team and all.

OU did a lot of good things but needs to limit the walks and base running errors. But all's well that ends well. We had a nice turnout as the visiting team today, and I think it really irked the locals that we were making more noise. The weather was finally nice (around 60 during the game), and that probably brought out more of the "OU transplants" (OU grads living in Albuquerque) for game three.

FYI - before the thread is unofficially archived in people's minds, one thing I wanted to clarify from my Saturday post had to do with Reine's epic home run to right field. If you're looking out towards the RF fence in Albuquerque, you're looking at the gap in the mountains where I-40 comes through from the eastern plains and high-prairie area of the state. So a tape-measure shot looks like it's headed for Tucumcari, which is 172 miles from home plate at Isotopes Park.
