Lately, I've started watching movies that aren't in the spotlight (I don't know if they'd be considered "B movies"), and there have been some pretty good ones. Recently, I watched a movie with John C. Reilly and Sean William Scott (Stiffler, American Pie) called The Promotion. While both of these actors are pretty well known, I had never heard of the movie (maybe it's just me, and maybe it was a highly promoted movie, and I missed it). It was actually a pretty good movie, and surprisingly a serious role for Sean William Scott (and he did a pretty good job).

What have you guys seen lately that's not been very publicized that might be worth a rent?

Stiffler is doing a lot of movies. He was on Jimmy Fallon the other night talking about a new movie and that they were getting all the American Pie cast back together. I think the movie is called "Goons" and is about hockey.

I saw that was available (pre-theatrical release) on demand. Looks decent.

That looks pretty different Juan.

The Station Agent is a 2003 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Thomas McCarthy. McCarthy's script about a man who seeks solitude in an abandoned train station in Newfoundland, New Jersey won him the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.

I recently watched "Bottle Shock" on Netflix. I choose it because I'll watch just about any move that has Alan Rickman in the cast. "Bottle Shock" is the story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous, blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as "Judgment of Paris".

Kinda gay romantic comedy, Midnight In Paris was a good one and although not a "b" movie I don't think it was as well known. I also saw 50/50 as well, that sad movie about cancer. Both were pretty good.

Get with the program, jumper.

Midnight in Paris was an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and won Best Original Screenplay (Woody Allen). It had three well-known stars, Rachel McAdams, Owen Wilson, and Kathy Bates. And one more, Marion Cotillard, who won Best Actress in 2007.

I made a movie called "Boner Jams '03." It's just some clips I was really into in the summer of 2003.

By the way. I watched the original Ocean's Eleven a few weeks ago. It's ten times better than the remake.

I watch whatever my gf brings home and that isn't a lot of movies. All I know is that I hadn't heard of it when I saw it. The oscars are lame these days too. 4 hours of boring to find out best picture, director, actor, and actress. All of which, everyone already probably expected. I spent the evening watching Durant throw down 36 in the All-Star game...

It was a movie recomendation though....and it still was a good movie.

I just got done watching this movie. It's based on a true story and is pretty good. Stiffler isn't his usual funny self. The only other American Pie character is Eugene Levy.

That's how he was in The Promotion. I actually like him better that way.

Watched The Immortals last night. I wouldn't call it a B-movie, or even a low-budget film, but I heard very little of it when it was in theaters. It's from the guy that did 300, and filmed in a similar way. It was a decent movie, but I think I went in expecting another 300, and was a little disappointed.

It was actually directed by the guy who directed The Cell with Jennifer Lopez. He's another guy with a highly stylized look to his movies. I think he's doing the new Snow White movie this year, or one of them.

If you've never seen it before, try 'Being There'. Or 'Hobo With A Shotgun'. Artistic toss-up.

I have no idea where I got the idea that it was done by the guy that did 300. Must have pulled that out of my ***. Anyway, I can see the resemblance in the film making style to The Cell.

Do you mean the Being There from the 80's? I've seen that one. It's a pretty good flick. I've heard about Hobo With a Shotgun, guess I should check it out, but I don't think it's the kind of movie the gf would go for....I've used up my "man movie" for the month on The Immortals.

Yes, from the 80's. Peter Sellers' best movie in my opinion and one that has resonance during this political season.
HWAS was thrown in for humor. Seriously. Watch a King of the Hill festival instead. Or, rent Snakes on a Plane as well and get reeeeeeeaaaaaaallllllly wasted. Probably any of the movies of Rutger Hauer as well, with the exception of Blade Runner.

Forgive me for a momentary hijack, but I'm cautiously excited about the film about Psycho. Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock and Scarlett Jo as Janet Leigh. How about a modern day shower scene with Scarlett?

That's the purpose of the thread. I know there are good films out there that I've avoided because they weren't hyped. My quest is to find them.

Christian Bale is a versatile, talented actor as well as an a$$hole. He isn't afraid to take on difficult roles, and as good as he was in The Fighter...

I watched Empire of the Sun again last night after many, many years. That little kid (CB) was in EVERY scene of a 2 1/2 hour movie and just killed it.

It made the movie more interesting to go back and see him, after being familiar with many of his adult roles. Also, Ben Stiller, Malkovich and Joe Pantaliono were very young as well. Although, Malkovich looked old, as usual.

My favorite role of his was in Rescue Dawn. It co-stars Steve Zahn (who I always think of as a comedic actor, but did a great job in that movie). It was about a year after his role in Batman Begins, and it didn't get as much attention, but I thought it was a great flick.

I had no idea he was even in Empire of the Sun, as I have never seen it. I know it's one of those movies I should have seen, just never have.

Wife took me to see Kathryn Hiegle in "One for the Money" where she decides to try and become a Bounty Hunter and chase down a Cop that's framed for murder that took her virginity from her and never called her again.

Also saw Drive and Albert Brookes was really good in it. Ron Pearlman from Hellboy and Sins of Anarchy is also a bad guy in it. It's not fantastic but it's the kind of movie I like sometimes.

Wife and I saw "The Artist" tonight and really enjoyed it. Best Movie Oscar? I can see why Hollywood was having an orgasm all over itself to try and make it Best Picture. I haven't seen all the Movies that were nominated yet so I'll hold off on which one I really think should have been BP.

A friend watched our son tonight so we could go to the Movies. After we picked him up we had some free movie tickets to burn so the three of us went to see "John Carter" in 3D IMAX. All of us enjoyed it plus they had the previews for The Hunger Games, The Avengers, Battleship and I can't remember the others but they were all in 3D IMAX so it was kind of cool to see them try and snag you into spending the extra dough on 3D IMAX movies. They really are awesome. I can see why so many folks only go to the movies just for them.
