They are honoring the bi-polar weed addict with a statue.

Not sure what the problem is. Was NCAA's all-time rusher before Ron Dayne happened. Won a Heisman.

Why shouldn't they be proud of him?

I liked Ricky. He is a strange guy though. The weed usage does give pause to building a statue on campus. Not like I care but parents may not want him idolized for that reason.

It's Austin. Keep Austin weird.

And ja, he was the Heisman winner and all-time leading rusher... for one season before relinquishing both to Wisconsin's Ron Dayne. :mack:

I love Ricky and everything about him. He came from California, but his steadfastness in being who he wants to be and even finding who he wants to be ring of classic Texan to me. All that and he has tried to do right wherever he could.

wtf

Happy for him and we're very proud. He's definitely a different cat. He had a phenomenal college career at Texas though (10K rushing yards in the NFL is nothing to sneeze at either - the 26th to ever do that I believe). He would've obliterated that college rushing record too if he didn't start out at FB and split carries with the likes of Shon Mitchell and Priest Holmes. Great Hesiman campaign in '98, so good that Ditka traded his whole draft for him.

he didn't split that many carries with Priest Holmes. PH didn't get much play at UT.

In 1995 when Ricky was a FB, he rushed for 1,025. Mitchell had 1,153 at TB.

In 1996, Ricky had 1,272, Mitchell had 686 and Holmes had 330.

True, Holmes was hurt most of 1996 but he still took some yards away from Ricky at the end. Considering Dayne only beat Ricky's total yardage by 118 (6,397 to 6,279), the point still stands. Had Ricky been a 4 year starter at TB like Dayne, it wouldn't have been close.

Yikes! When someone sees Bradford's statue and criticizes the lack of likeness, they need to see these. They'll then have more appreciation for it.

Whenever I see these, all I can think is that somewhere in Austin, a McDonald's Playland is completely empty.

That had to have been some art students papier-mâché project. Even the Whorn fans that I know thought those were a complete joke and couldn't understand what the Co-op was trying to do with those. What was telling was the fact there were no "official logos" on them even though the Co-op is one of the biggest sellers of official UT merchandise in the state, they have locations in most of the major cities selling UT stuff.

Sorry, didn't know this was a Sooner only site. Thought the thread was about Ricky Williams. Just pointing out the phenomenal college career he had and how's he's deserving of the statue that's being discussed.

This is an OKLAHOMA football forum. Of course there can be more than one viewpoint, but you're talking about OU die hards recognizing a shortwhorn in a positive manner?!?! and then get all bent out of shape about it when they don't? LMAO

Don't like wishing my life away but I'm ready for fall. :)

Not bent out of shape. Just confused because you guys whine when Longhorns are over here and also when they leave for good and don't post anymore like the lawyer guy. Just tried to put my 2 cents in on the Longhorn perspective of Ricky Williams. Carry on.

The statue will be unveiled before the Spring Game on April 1st.

Will the statue be unveiled on April 1st? Or is the spring game on April 1st. Meh, it's April fools day anyway. Doesn't really matter, works either way. :D
