This is one of the most in-depth analysis of a single football play that I've ever read.

Enjoy it, because you will be back to Baylor football this season.

See, this is the difference between the two programs. For Baylor fans, this play sticks out as one of the greatest ever. For Sooner fans, we can't pick one play and label it "the play" or "the catch". There are far too many plays that lead to conference titles, national titles, Heisman Trophies, etc. to label any of them.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The easiest way to tell an elite program from a non-elite one is to ask yourself "would our fans storm the field if we beat a ranked, favored team at home?". If the answer is "yes", then your program is not elite. Good? Sure. Elite? No.

All of this is correct. I would only point out that nobody from Jerusalem-on-the-Brazos is claiming to be an elite program. We just want to become a good program.

As for rushing the field, the Baylor Line already goes out on the field prior to the game. Those rushing the field after the games are typically the student body along with some parents with small kids. Having participated in a fair share of them, I think the atmosphere down there is pretty damned cool. Everyone is hyped up after the big win and everyone wants to celebrate together. It's great fun to slap a player on the back and tell them good job while everyone sings the alma mater together and listens to the Tennessee Waltz to wrap the game up.

I really wish we'd make it a tradition of "rushing" the field after every home win. Don't forget that our stadium isn't on campus either, so it isn't like the celebration naturally flows to campus after a win. Everyone scatters to the 4 corners after leaving the stadium.

Enjoy it. Glad Griffin won the Heisman, but sorry it came at our expense. I am reminded after watching that play how much of an absolute failure last season was for OU and how glad I am to see BV out of Norman.

Hell of a throw though. One of the best I've seen.

When do the minted coins come out? :nonchalance:

Was anybody on this board looking for a Zapruder film analysis of OU's failure to cover last season?

Well, from the 50 Yr. line in WACO with all my family in tow, I watched as RGIII did his magic and as a TRUE BLEEDER OF THE CRIMSON & CREAM, I was sad for my team but tipped my hat to the Baylor Great. I wish him well in the NFL where he will be joined by (7) GREAT OU Players this year! (NOW THAT MY FRIENDS IS A GENTLEMENS COME-BACK! :playful:

Anywhoo, I posted this not to throw salt in the wound but because the section on the breakdown of OU's secondary was pretty interesting. I'm not sure if this one blown play is emblematic of OU's defensive woes or not, but I found it interesting since I've never really been able to wrap my head around defense.

They need to add an asterisk: "Technically, we've only built one."

Not that I'm trying to take anything away from Baylor. Mucho kudos. This puts you in the same category as other Big 12 Heisman singlets, like Oklahoma State and Texas A&M :P

And neither has the Baylor coaching staff.

Well, I can understand the elation Baylor fans take from reliving what became a Heisman Moment. However, in the annals of college football, the term "The Play" is already taken and it refers, paradoxically, to an anti-Heisman Moment.

Interesting he doesn't mention the pushoff the receiver does. Instead, he just notes he "breaks away" or whatever it is. Should've been a penalty.

1977, tOSU, Uwe Von Schamann. I actually taped the game (still have it). It is part of the reason my kids are all Sooners - they've worn the tape out.
You can find it on youtube as "The Kick." I've never bothered to learn how to insert the videos.

It's sad that have one that qualifies. I would rather have several that we argue over.

Gotcha!

I think we do have many plays that could be argued over. I think the Keith Jackson end around against Nebraska in Norman could be "the play", but there's so many more that qualify. That's a good thing.

One of my proudest moments as a Sooner to be in the stands at that game, and not with the Sooner contingent at the opposite end of the stadium but on the last row underneath the overhang among the tOSU version of my frat (who graciously sold me and my friend tix so we could sit with them) so I had a dead on view of the ball coming at me. Remember that it was Uwe's kickoffs that kept the Buckeyes pinned deep throughout the crucial 1st quarter when OU rang up 17 unanswered points. Just before the field goal one of the Ohio State guys turned to me and asked, "Is he the same guy who kicks off for you?" My nod pretty much told him, "You're screwed."
