Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is scheduled to start running on Feb. 28 as part of his rehabilitation from ACL surgery on Dec. 30.

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (http://min.scout.com/a.z?s=63&p=8&c=1&nid=5565138) is scheduled to start running on Feb. 28, he told KFAN 100.3 FM on Friday morning.

Peterson had surgery on Dec. 30 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and spent New Year’s in the hospital. After Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Alabama, Peterson returned to Minnesota to check in with the Vikings’ medical personnel and has since been rehabilitating in Houston and “working hard,” he said.

“I’m definitely making improvement. I’m starting to get my muscle tone and strength back into the legs,” Peterson told Paul Allen on KFAN. “I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far. I’m extremely happy.”

Peterson said he should be able to start running on Feb. 28, but reiterated what Vikings trainers have been saying since his surgery – he has to be careful not to push his progress and try to do too much too soon. He said his physical therapist in Houston is making sure he adheres to the schedule.

“He’s making sure I’m doing the right things. It feels strong, but he doesn’t want me to push it too much,” said Peterson, who was in New Orleans Friday to attend the funeral for the wife of former Oklahoma Sooners and Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris (http://min.scout.com/a.z?s=63&p=8&c=1&nid=5892201).

Peterson said he is getting the flexibility back in his left knee and, while there is still some pain, it’s nothing compared to the first few days after the injury. The swelling is “almost completely gone,” he said.

The star running back, who leads the NFL with 6,752 rushing yards and 64 touchdowns since entering the league in 2007, will return to Minnesota at the end of February and stay through the beginning of March, he said.

I hope he isn't the new Peyton --- sign a big extension with the team you drafted because the entire offense and success of the team revolves around you, then suffer an injury that leaves people questioning if you are still the best player at your position or ever will be again :(

Speedy recovery, AD! Please rush for thousands of yards (but please don't beat the Packers)

Adrian Peterson will not begin running on Feb. 28

Brad Biggs, The National Football Post (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/sports/nfp/nfl/article/SIG=116r1d3rt/*http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/)
Adrian Peterson (http://sports.search.yahoo.com/search?p=Adrian+Peterson+NFL&fr=sports-us-ss) has been making the rounds on radio airwaves sharing his excitement with his rehabilitation from a torn ACL.

Peterson had surgery Dec. 30 and recently said he planned to begin running – get this – on Feb. 28 (http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Adrian-Peterson-hopes-to-start-running-in-11-days.html), which is this coming Tuesday.
Let’s just say the Minnesota Vikings (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/min/) and coach Leslie Frazier have thrown the brakes on the accelerated recovery.
“He’s very optimistic about where he is in his rehab and the progress he’s making,” Frazier said, according to Dan Wiederer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “He’s come along. He’s right on schedule. And he feels he’s ahead of schedule. But we do have to temper his emotions at times. We talked about that yesterday.”
Frazier said he spoke to Peterson on Thursday and the club remains in close contact with the running back, who is doing his rehab work in Houston.
“He’s got to listen to what the doctors are telling him and the rehab specialists and go at their pace (http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/140313473.html),” Frazier said. “There are steps to take before you actually start running. He has to go through those steps.”
The first step, according to Frazier, is running in the swimming pool. There is no plan for him to run on land anytime soon.
“We’ll see how he’s doing and how he’s responding to what he does in the pool before he actually begins to do some hard-surface running,” Frazier said. “But in his mind, he’s just about ready to go out and run sprints right now. But he’s not ready for that.
“He’s begun to understand that he’s got to listen to the doctors and go at the pace they expect him to and not try to force this. Because he can do more damage than he realizes. So he’s understanding now the importance of following the protocol and letting things play out the way they should.”
