Four-star junior tailback Alvin Kamara of Norcross, Ga., couldn't believe what he found in his mailbox after getting home from school one recent day.

Or rather, what he found falling out of his mailbox.

There were 105 letters from Alabama," Kamara told Rivals.com.

Seriously?

"I counted!" Kamara said. "And I took pictures. I was shocked. I didn't expect there to be that many in the mailbox. When I opened it, it was overflowing and some of them fell out."

Kamara said he's keeping all 105 of them in one shoebox.

And while he says hasn't read them all - there were simply too many of them - he thinks he already knows the meaning behind the Tide's mass mailing.

"It's because they want me," Kamara said.

They are not alone.

Alabama is one of nine schools that have offered the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder. His latest came from Mississippi State on Thursday.

"It's still exciting [getting new offers]," Kamara admitted. "Every time I get one, I'm like 'Yes!'"

Kamara, who rushed for 1,500-plus yards in 2011, is a solid all-around back known for his exceptional speed. He received his first offer last fall from Syracuse.

After a strong performance at the Rising Seniors Georgia Junior Bowl in December, he started getting even more attention. Now, Kamara is one of the Peach State's most sought-after juniors.

He already has visited the Tide. This weekend, he will check out Florida. In March, he will head to Clemson.

"Right now, I don't have any leaders, but I'll say a few schools stand out a little bit," Kamara said. "Alabama, Georgia and Syracuse. Recruiting wise, they stay in touch with me the most.

"Coach [Bryan] McClendon at Georgia stays in touch with me; Coach [Tyrone] Wheatley at Syracuse keeps in touch with me."

Alabama is just the most persistent.

"Coach [Kirby] Smart at Alabama - we talk two or three times a week," he said.

Asked who was recruiting him the hardest, Kamara's answer probably won't surprise you.

"I'll say Alabama, just based on what other schools are doing and what Alabama is doing," Kamara said. "I went there [for junior day] and it went well. I liked the atmosphere. It's SEC football. It's big-time football. You can feel it when you go up there."

Or when you open your mailbox.

Will they send him 100 letters of "never mind" if a 5* recruit commits or is interested?

Now that would be sad... but not entirely unexpected with the way the SEC has been lately.

Is OU considering giving him a scholarship? Sounds like he may really be good.

OU seems to be more of a slow player on recruits, so I imagine we are considering it and will continue considering it for awhile.

I am not suggesting that you are suggesting this, but just in case, OU shouldn't offer a kid just because other schools are. That's reportedly what sank Larry Coker at Miami --- instead of doing real recruiting (see high school games, talk to high school coaches, review film) they apparently had their computers open to Rivals and were offering kids just because other schools were.

Now THERE is a way to go from nat'l title in your first year as head coach to fired after a big FIU (crutches and all) fight

Every time I see a story like this, I'm glad we didn't hop into the SEC cesspool.

I giggle when I hear about people leaving estates to college football, like that Bammer guy with all of the tattoos. THIS is how college football spends money. $80k might sound like a lot to you, but to them, it's a year's worth of printing worthless form letters for potential recruits that might never get offered scholarships. It's a single team meal. It's installing new flat screens around the athletic department when last year's flat screens start to have a little bit of dust on them. It's keeping the stadium lights on at night for a week when nobody is using the stadium.

Donor's mind: I'm helping my football team win!
School's perspective: You're a drop in the bucket and it's a BIG bucket.

Perfect fit for Bama.

Do those Bama letters start with, "Congratulations, you may have already won a four year scholarship."

Just doing our civic duty and helping keep the USPS in business.:playful:

Seriously...I figured this would draw all the Saban-haters out from under their rocks and just laughed when I first read about this. I'm still not sure how this happened, but I doubt very seriously that Nick had anything to do with it. From what I understand, the athletic dept farms out practically all of their mass mailout business to an outside company. IF so, it might have been caused by a simply mistaken keystroke on a computer(like typing a '105' instead of a '1'). OTOH, who knows, maybe it was by design--evidently each piece of mail was not identical and the latest word on Kamara is that he now talks with our DC several times a week and they have supposedly developing a pretty good bond. Either way, as long as Saban and co. keep recruiting like they have been the last 5 yrs AND its within the rules, which has seen us rack up a 48-6 record in our last 54 games and win two NC's, they can send this kid a letter every day of the year for all I care. The ATL metro area is a hotbed for talent and we've made huge inroads the last couple of years stealing players from Mark Richt over there. This will probably just end up being the latest example of that success...

Too bad you need at least 106 letters from Saban to get grayshirt immunity.
