It's too cute. (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/highschool-prep-rally/kindergarten-k-state-fan-refuses-color-jayhawk-mascot-170922025.html)

She was honored at last night's KU-KSU game (http://www.kansascity.com/2012/02/12/3425341/color-this-little-wildcat-purple.html). (ksu lost in the minute or so)

The mom's blog entry on it here. (http://bug-bytes.net/2012/01/28/emma-got-in-trouble-at-school/)

I gotta say, the mom has a better sense of humor than I would have. I mean, it's one thing just to give the kid a coloring assignment, but if the teacher was doing it because she honestly thought that a Jayhawk is representative of the state of Kansas, then she is either a moron or a very misguided KU fan. How many posters on here would like to hear that their kindergartener was forced to color a picture of Pistol Pete because Pistol Pete "represents Oklahoma."

And yeah, I know the story behind the Jayhawkers, but that's not really what this is about.

Got to love her loyalty. She was raised right, a little misguided, but right.

Nobody is talking about how big a bitch the teacher is. That'd be like a teacher handing out OU or Poke stuff to color in this state...The teacher should know the division over ksu/ku in kansas and provided both teams to color on. But no, instead she feels like the child is acting out and needs to have a talk with the parents. The teacher should have been smart enough to do what the parent did. Get on ****ing google and print off a power cat for the little girl to color.

Edit: Nobody except two post above me...

And it happened to fall on the day of their rivalry game just by chance....

My guess is the teacher had 30 little brats running around everywhere, was exhausted and just wanted a breather while the kids colored. Thinking she was FINALLY going to get a chance to sit down at her big teacher desk, a little girl refuses to color. If that doesn't make you reach for an aspirin bottle :P

Seriously, though, this teacher has probably dealt with a LOT of crap either from administration or the Internet mob after the fact, so there's some level of sympathy. Methinks this will not happen again. Color endless amounts of sunflowers next year!

It'd be different of course in Oklahoma - the Sooner State. I'd expect each and every one of the little darlings to color the Sooner Schooner!

From what I read on the stories and comments, the Jayhawk is one of several Kansas symbols (sunflower, bison, etc.) that is passed out each year on "Kansas Day," and these materials are put together by the Kansas Board of Education, not by the individual teachers. One commenter on the Star's article even mentioned how the same thing happened with a little boy last year on the same day.
