She was once asked if she was angered by the addition of "under god" to the pledge of allegiance and her response was "if its good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me", which might seem like a decent answer until you realize that the pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist named Bellamy about 100 years after the founding fathers founded anything and it wasn't until the cold war that "under god" was added.

You can donate that $10 to a fund for homeless people. Thanks.

Allow me to "refudiate" (a great made-up word by that Oxford Dictionary mind of Mrs. Palin) your comment with the words of none other than Karl Rove (who also thinks Palin is a moron):

"There are high standards that the American people have" for the presidency, Rove told the Telegraph. "They require a certain level of gravitas. … They want to look at the candidate and say, 'That candidate is doing things that [give] me confidence that they are up to the most demanding job in the world.'"

I don't know. It depends on how Romney distinguishes himself from the President. I've never actually voted for a Democrat for President, but if Romney chooses to play to the carnival wing of the Republican Party, I'll be voting for Obama. If Romney's plan actually makes sense and he repudiates his current plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act, I'll be voting for Obama. There's no way in Hades I'd even consider voting for Santorum or Gingrich. Those two are complete clowns.

Romney and Obama are both pretty bad choices.

In reality land, when you have a hotly contested piece of legislation, it's not really realistic to be able to negotiate everything in the open. Obama was either being naive or disingenuous when he made those remarks. I don't really care which as he knows better now. Also, I don't think he could have fairly predicted the level of vitriol coming from the Right.

Voted for Bush (twice) and McCain.

The Republican Party has moved so insanely to the right and become such a freak show that I really am hesitant to even remain a registered Republican.

I know both parties cater to the lowest common denominator pretty effectively, but there's something I find very particularly distasteful about the faux fear being sold by the 'pubs, e.g., that the President is a secret Muslim, not a citizen, etc. It's just dumb. I can't think that a party which uses such tactics to gain an upper hand with its base has our best interests at heart. They've become all about a mad lust for power which discounts all ethics and morals. I can't really tolerate that or support it.

Romney still could rise above it. I won't hold what he says to get through the primary against him. The base is utterly insane. We'll see.

I think it started with Clinton. The Republican Party has been moving to the right at a very gradual pace since then. Every year, the rhetoric, anger and vitriol have ratcheted up just a notch. At this point, your party is catering to its true loonies. It'd be as if the Democrat Party suddenly had no constituency more important than Green Peace. You want to cater to extremists? Be completely unwilling to even discuss small tax hikes on those who can most afford it when the government needs revenue to meet existing obligations? To cater to folks who really and truly believe that the President is not a U.S. citizen and that he's a Muslim? Fine.. but you'll do that with thinking people sitting on the sidelines wondering whether we should vote Dem to send you a message that we're fed up with the carnival act or hold our nose and vote for the guy who is probably the best candidate.

Truth be told, I'd be ecstatic about a Romney presidency except for the fact that he's shown how willing he is to stoop to the level of the extremists. That could all change in the general election and I'm going to hope it does.

I believe you are correct, it did start with Clinton, but not in the manner which you believe.

I believe you have it wrong, the vitriol has it roots with the Democrats.

The change is this. In 1994 the house changed control from Dems to Republican for the first time in 40 years along with large numbers at the state level as well. Gone was the Dem's lord like control over the house functions. Instead of just throwing a bone to the Republicans from time to time and allowing some of their legislation through the committee process in the "spirit of bipartisanship", they were now faced with going to the committee chairs now controlled by Republican's to get some of their legislation through the process. This no doubt chaffed them immensely. I can imagine that some of their legislative attempts never even received consideration.

At the state level now that Republican's are in control of Governor's seats, majorities in the various state houses etc., they now have the ability to do what Democrats had unrestricted access too for so very long and practiced with great skill, redraw congressional districts to be in their favor.

The Dem's have all but chased any semblance of a moderate to conservative element out of their ranks. The Blue-Dogs numbers are cut in half, down from 54 to 26. Victims of their leaderships demand they swear blind allegiance to the Democratic platform and vote as commanded by their leaders.

Yeah, there is anger and vitriol alright and it's from the Dem's who are pissed their easy ride is over.

In my view politics is cyclical. Americans are trying to find representation that really works for them and politicians are only interested in power and developing their own legacy and retirement. Its like an itch we cant satisfy. As soon as Democrats got control they were on the way out. i believe the next wave will take out this latest group of tea-party Pubs. We have seen some of this trend emerging in recent elections. Both parties are more than willing to whore themselves out to the big money interests to stay in power. Power is everything.

Very true although I don't know if the pubs group will be on the way out yet. Split congresses seem to generate less public mood swings. I really only see a chance the PUbs would lose some house seats if Obama wins big...and that doesn't appear to be on the horizon.

Obama's numbers continue to steadily move up and approval for Congress continues to go the other way. I think this is why we saw some traction on the payroll tax.The American people are clearly sick of the gridlock and will blame someone on election day, they always do.There still is a lot of drama left to play out, the economy being the wild card. I don't believe Obama wins big either, but i do think we will see some form of voter angst. I know you and Phil are a couple of old farts, does Okie52 indicate you were born in 52?
