I normally don't like to talk about rumors or anything but living here in South Carolina and talking to a few Clemson fans, they are telling me that the Big 12 is interested in adding Clemson and FSU. Now I have done some research to see if their was anything to this but the only thing I found was a bunch of fans on the Clemson message board running their mouths about it. Have any of ya'll heard anything about this?

From the past week:

Granted this is also a message board....so take it FWIW.

Thats about the same as the Clemson's message board. People are talking about it but can't provide a true source.

They are very possible additions.

I do know Chuck Nienas (sp?) has stated that the conference leaders have talked about expanding.

From Jan. 21: http://www.eerinsider.com/2012-articles/january/big-12-to-target-acc.html

Also, Greg Swaim has tweeted about it....don't have any of his tweets either.

Can't say its impossible but the ACC has a 20 million dollar buyout for teams if they ever leave. I'm sure FSU wouldn't have a problem paying that.

To schools like FSU and Clemson, 20 Million would be chump change. They have donors that can fart and donate that much money!

There was talk at one point about picking up a team or two from the ACC (or at least it was rumored), and that was squashed pretty quickly when it appeared that the ACC was looking to expand themselves. I can see some kind of an alliance (like the PAC 12 and Big 10 just did), but short of that, I don't see us being able to grab Clemson or FSU from an otherwise stable conference.

I feel like everyone posting in this thread is whispering when I read it.

Geographically it makes no sense. I see them closing the gap between West Virginia and the rest of the Big 12 by adding Big East schools like Cincy or L'ville before they invade more east coastness.

this would put a dent in their recruiting payouts, i mean budget....

I've heard Louisville would be the next one. Clemson might be cool though!

OU, Texas, Clemson, FSU, and West Virginia would be a fun conference.

Here is the best way to figure this out: (1) replace one of the schools mentioned with another in a neighboring state (2) change the conference mentioned with the farthest away conference geographically (3) wait 3-7 days and repeat.

Has any of this been run by Mr Dodds, down in texas, cause he seems to run the conference and who comes in and who goes out?

Everything I've read says Louisville is the next one in. I've also seen that Cincinnati is picking up steam as a possible 12th. If we're going to add teams from the east, we might as well add Cincy...also an added benefit to Ohio recruiting.
