A (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7494959/texas-longhorns-regents-consider-changing-mack-brown-contract)nd a $1000 more a year sure sounds like a solid contract.

I'm sure it would be tough to buy out that remaining $4000 if they need to let him go

Texas used to win the recruiting national championship... but just like in the actual national championship in the 2009-10 season... they are losing to Bammer :D

His salary has been disputed before... in fact, right before everything came crashing down, hehe:

In 2009 Brown's salary was increased to $5.1 million (excluding bonuses and incentives) a raise of about $2 million. This has led to much controversy on the UT campus as it came at a time when academic programs have been facing significant cutbacks. On December 14, 2009 the UT faculty council held a special meeting to consider the following resolution:[39]

"We appreciate the contributions of the athletic staff and, especially, the student-athletes, to the community of the University of Texas at Austin. However, at a time when students are facing a deteriorating academic environment in the form of declining class offerings and increasing class sizes, and lecturers, teaching assistants, and staff are facing job terminations, we believe a permanent raise of $2 million (a sum greater than the entire career earnings of a typical university employee) offered to any member of the university community is unseemly and inappropriate."

This move was justified by President Bill Powers as necessary to make sure Mack Brown would stay for what was expected to be one more year and provide continuity to Will Muschamp, then assistant coach and heir designate, who was being paid almost $1 million dollars per year to stay and play second fiddle.

Now, not to knock Macky too much, because he seems like a nice guy, but what exactly is a guy's motivation to improve his team and his coaching if he's making more money than guys that are achieving more than two conference titles and one national title dating back to 1998?

So in the past I joked that Texas' money pit means they're putting jacuzzis and personal massage therapists in every football player's dorm room to the point that they all want to go "study in their rooms" rather than practice... what would $5.2 million do to Brown?

1- An even bigger gut. We'll just custom-fit some bigger khakis (complete with embroidered longhorn logo) and larger Nike-licensed coaches polos to fit the widening waistlines.

2- Bigger offices. In fact, let's just give him another office!

3- Free time. Who says you should spend every NCAA-allowed minute recruiting and coaching? Take a vacation DURING the season to one of your many new vacation homes!

4- Less winning. Winning is overrated if 7-5 and 5-7 seasons are all it takes to drive your successor out and thus be solely in command again, commanding a pay raise and contract extension!

5- Create the Mack Brown Network. Sponsored by ESPN under a 20-year, $30 million annual deal, the Mack Brown Network will not be subject to the NCAA scrutiny that a school-tied network would be, but rather, be subject to head coaching rules, meaning it cannot have any programming during a majority of the offseason, cannot discuss recruits until they've signed with the school, cannot discuss coaching or practice more than 12 hours per week and can only be broadcast in the homes of potential recruits once, unless the recruit initiates the broadcast... among many, many other rules.

Eff it... keep being Texas, Texas.
