NORMAN, Oklahoma - We're all familiar with drive-through, but there's a new store in the metro that's re-defining the concept. You actually drive in one side of the store and out the other.
"We get a lot of people that stop and kind of ask us "what do you do? Do you really drive in here?" a store employee said.
Well of course, it's a drive-through, or I suppose you could drive into if you wanted.That's what you do at the "Oh, Drive-Thru."
"It's 'oh, you drive thru.' Like oh, you drive through. Because that seems to be our customers' response," Anna Newton said.
It's not necessarily a new idea, just one that hasn't' been around Norman in a long time.
"I think it's pretty unique. I think Norman used to have something like this about 1985-86 over on Lindsey street," customer Harlan Butler said.
Kyle and Anna Newton are both from Norman, but they spent considerable time in Ohio. That's where they became enchanted with the drive-thru store idea.
"They have 'em all over the place up there. We drove into one and loved it, fell in love with it, came back to Norman and decided Norman needed one," Kyle Newton said.
You have to know where everything is.
"I do. I do. I've placed everything here, so I pretty much know where everything's at," Kyle said.
Well sure, it's easy to say that. But you've got to be on your game with real customers. I thought I'd give Anna a little test.
Anna passed her test, but what do real live customers think about this whole deal?
"Instead of going down here and getting out, I can just on my way home just roll right through here and make it home without even having to get out in the cold," Chuck Richardson said.
The store is located at 1237 East Lindsey Street.

Norman had a drive through convenience store on Lindsey street several years ago. My friends and I would drive through it to get beer. On the broadcast of this story on last night's news, I believe they mentioned that store. I do not think they are trying to lay claim on being unique or a pioneer, just that they had fallen in love with the concept from their stay in Ohio and wanted the chance to try for themselves. If it takes off, I hope they can expand and have stores in OKC.

I don't see where they claimed it to be their own ... This is what I read ... "It's not necessarily a new idea, just one that hasn't' been around Norman in a long time" ... Nowhere in that sentence does it claim it for their own ...

I doubt Stillwater had the *first* one, they likely stole the idea too. Also, somebody @News 9 needs to read over the text version of this story. You can't just copy the script from the video word for word, it does not read well.

lol, kristi, I was thinking the same thing, the Barn has been a staple in Stillwater for ages. Although, I think Ada, old fox, is one of the towns who's done the drive through c-store the longest.

I grew up in California and these stores were called dairy's you drove in told them what you wanted. Milk, eggs, bread, soda, ice cream everything that a convenience store carries here.

I think Stillwater has had one for years - Leave it to Norman to copy an idea and claim it for their own.
