NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Verizon Wireless will soon make some customers pay for the privilege of paying their bills.

The nation's largest wireless company is instituting a $2 "convenience charge" for those customers who make one-time bill payments using a debit or credit card, either online or by telephone. The fee will go into effect on Jan. 15.

Mail your payment in via USPS. It will be funny when they suddenly have **** loads of checks coming in to pay the phone bill and they have to hire 45 people to process the payments and take them to the bank....lol -

So they are generally passing on the credit card fees. Sounds crappy, but I'm sure they get sick of kicking back 2-3% to Visa or Mastercard for every transaction.

It will cost them a **** load more than 2-3% if folks start mailing in their payments. As far as I know a check is still a legal form of tender.

I've found several buisnesses do this. ONG does it for credit cards, but you can do an online check for free.
