Evidence and other accounts are contradicting a Florida animal sanctuary's claim that a chimpanzee that portrayed Cheetah, Tarzan's sidekick in movies of the early 1930s, has died at 80.

Cheetah outlived both of the stars of those movies, Maureen O'Sullivan and Johnny Weissmuller.

Not everyone believes this particular chimpanzee is the one that starred in films from the 1930's, however. In the history of Tarzan films, from 1930 through the 1960's, as many as 14 different chimps have played the role so that alone is cause to question which one recently died.

But one never knows . . .

80 is not a bad life. I always said I'd take up crack-cocaine if I saw my 80th. My dad turned 80 in October. While he does seem old, he still "has it." He's happy, can do most things he always did within reason, and loves Sooner Football.

I might have to rethink the crack-cocaine thing.
