Somebody can pull up my post from a week or two ago which asked "why would Minny risk injury to the best, most highly paid RB in the NFL on some meaningless games?"

I was wondering that when I saw the injury. I don't understand.

Your answer in photos:

Sure, all he does is lob it up to hall of famer Cris Carter and basketball-rebound-cliche-machine Randy Moss, but dang it, he's our franchise quarterback!

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-aCfx51AeU9Y/Te-bwKbiIwI/AAAAAAAAAYI/L7EwQhTlm6Y/s1600/RandyMoss.jpg
Oh noes, he's going crazy on us...

Your coaching genius is in the building, and he says to you minions... shaddap, I call all of the shots. And you better win now, because some of you are getting arses cut in the offseason! Yes, I did just say that to your face! And now... to get the franchise players...

http://www.inflexwetrust.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/brett-favre-vikings1.jpg
Brad Childress will pick you up from the airport. Brad Childress will send his team's vets down to Mississippi to fetch you. Brad Childress will keep you outta the gameplan discussions, but Brad Childress doesn't realize that you will do whatever the eff you want regardless of what playcall Brad Childress sends in.

http://sports-cream.com/wp-content/uploads/Randy-Moss.jpg
Brad Childress is going to bring you back to Minneapolis even though you are at the tail end of your career and give up a high draft pick to get you and then Brad Childress is gonna cut you a few weeks later. We don't need draft picks anyway. Who have we drafted lately that was worth anything?!

http://nogingersclub.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/adrian-peterson.jpg
Oh yeah... well, he doesn't count, because we get so far behind that we need to pass the ball and abandon our running game by the second half. Don't you know how much time running eats off the clock? Block for the quarterback, AD. We're totally misusing you.

Who needs an offense? We have one good player on defense!

OK, fine, we'll have a quarterback... but only if it's one that nobody else wants because he's at the tail end of his career.

http://i.usatoday.net/communitymanager/_photos/the-huddle/2011/04/30/ponderx-large.jpg
Well, our season is now in the sh!tter, so let's throw our first round draft pick quarterback of the future in the fray and risk injuring him in a meaningless late season game! AD too.

I have a facebook friend who posted after he got hurt that there's no way in hell he should have been playing . . . and then less than an hour later about how he loves that they play for pride instead of just draft position. Now I understand that those two aren't necessarily completely mutually exclusive -- but was he really suggesting that he wishes they'd played the scrubs and would be proud that THEY played hard, as opposed to the regulars?

Merit in the discussion: Star players don't fight for one of the precious few roster spots. Scrub players are auditioning for a future roster spot (and perhaps their current one, as players have been cut mid-season many times) every time they enter the game.

There is a lot of merit to backups wanting to play their hardest each and every time they're out for special teams, on third down, late in the game in meaningless mopup duty, you name it.

But eff Minnesota and their inflatable dome that will ensure that the franchise moves quickly.

Merry Christmas!

I wasn't talking about this thread. I guess I should have been clearer about that. I was talking about the web in general. All of these major injuries to Sooners and former Sooners have put me in a really ****ty mood about football. This season needs to end. Also, I typically don't avoid things people write just because I disagree with them. That is not the best way to go through life. Thanks for the Christmas wishes.

Word. The reports out there that he tore his ACL before its official is kind of premature. However, it does look serious and seriously hope it's not the injury Jason White made famous :(

How about... Give me a Rocky, Roy, Torrance, Strait, etc, and I will give you a championship. Considering the offense scored once that night, and it was due to a short field, thanks to Rocky and Roy.

SI.com reports MRI revealed ACL injury.

I really hope this isn't the end for Peterson. Really difficult injury to recover from.

Considering his running style I'm surprised he's lasted this long. Hope for the best for him.

He tore both the ACL and the MCL. Reportedly, he won't be able to start the 2012 season. Fortunately, $36 million of his new $100 million dollar contract is guaranteed . . .

The fact of the matter is that Q was much more durable than Peterson was at OU. Q Played in every game at OU after they yanked his shirt in 1999 (7th game of the season). That is 4/13/13/14 for a total of 44 games. Peterson played in 13/7/7 in 3 years. W/L for Q was 38/6 and for Peterson it was 21/5.

So, while I don't necessarily agree with him, his arguments are defensible.

Comparing W/L records for running backs?

That is beyond lunacy.

Regarding durability, what's more impressive, Q being healthy for 3 1/2 years at OU, or AD playing 53 straight games in the NFL?

Not sure I get what you mean.

After week 3 games weren't meaningless. After his recent ankle injury and the fact the Vikes were 2-whatever, I think I would have given him a bonus to sit out. If AD refused and said I want to play then I can't argue. If it was simply a way to get butts in the seats then that was just an irresponsible decision.

I'm fairly sure that W/L is the ONLY statistic this board cares about since if we lose one game they want the staff fired. Also, since I'm an OU fan one of those marks is meaningless.

Don't forget Q's fumble to carry ratio. He hardly ever turned it over.

I would think almost any player would miss at least a month of next season with an injury like this, but I would never doubt AD and his will to return for the opener. AD is one of a kind and for people who say he won't ever be the same: AD at 90% of his former self is still a pro bowler and a HOFer.
