While my daughter is home for Christmas she has introduced me to this show. Not bad to watch when you're bored. I cannot comprehend how the guy can eat so much. To me, its just nuts. The restaurants and food looks pretty good, though.

While watching this, my daughter and son-in-law were telling me about an acquaintance of theirs that eats extreme meals like this. Coincidentally, the next day the guy ends up in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer.

Is this a fad thing with the 20 somethings right now?

Those type of food challenges are really nothing more than a gimmick put on by the restaurants in hopes that it will get their name out there to the masses.....And for the most part it seems to work.

Eating challenges have become more and more popular over the past 10 years or so with the annual Nathan's Hot Dog eating competition now broadcast by ESPN I believe.

I enjoy the show too, as there is something impressive to see people accomplish those ridiculous challenges. I don't really think the host does the challenges himself anymore. I'm sure he realized he can't keep doing that. I think the show is now just him going to the place and recruiting someone locally to attempt the challenge.

I have always wanted to tackle the Big Texan challenge in Amarillo. I easily could have taken it down back in my early 20's.

No way could I have made a dent in the old Big Ed's hamburger challenge though.

He's backed off some and now has other's doing his dirty work. Somewhere I saw a quote where he said he was killing himself.

Didn't we have a poster who in the background when he did the fire pizza challenge in Tulsa?

I watched the show when it first started, then he tried too hard to be funny and it became annoying. I can't imagine being able to eat like that on a regular basis.

Me and some friends had a weigh off last TG or Christmas....Weigh in the AM on the same scale then weigh at night after you were done shoveling it all down.......228 to 242 here......:excitement:

If I remember correctly, when he was actually doing the challenges himself he very rarely ate anything else on the day of the challenge, and didn't really drink anything other than water to remain hydrated. He usually did a system cleansing the day before as well.

I remember Big Eds, never tried to do one alone though.

Yeah, my wife and I were gonna go when they were shooting but short notice couldn't make it happen.

They also filmed at the Mexican place, Elote, but I heard that didn't make the show. They have Luche Libre wrestling at Elote. Not a full sized ring. Specialty is the puffy tacos...yum!
