I find myself avoiding SF.com more and more...

and reading other Sooner message boards instead. I wanted to share my thoughts (despite the potential of being negged) because I feel other people may have this opinion as well.

The amount of pointless threads are a big detraction from this site. I am specifically talking about the threads that are a spinoff of another thread, in an attempt to be funny. The most recent examples are the threads of “How old were you when…”

I don’t find this amusing, just annoying, and something that causes me to avoid SoonerFans more and more. I use to love this site, and the people that posted on it.

I hope that we can help self-police these people. Also, the admins need to step-in and block the people posting these topics, as well as lock the topics so they die a quick death.

I completely understand man, but there's a few things people should understand:

1- We had a season that not many people still want to talk about.

2- We are ending the year on transfers, coaching rumors and a mid-tier bowl against a crap tier opponent (no offense to Hawkeyes)

3- It's as much the other poster's fault for not posting something more interesting to talk about.

As much as copycat threads get annoying, we need new topics to discuss or they're gonna pop up on here outta sheer boredom.

If you are a victim of sheer boredom, check out the forums on here, not just football --- recruiting news, basketball, VBOOKIE, there's life at SF.com outside of the football forum!

I agree with the OP. The copycat threads are simply annoying and detract from the board. It baffles me why nobody does anything to stop them. I understand it on the SO but not on the main football board.

Frankly, I thought the Gibbs thread was very interesting. It was great to read about other's thoughts when Switzer left and Gibbs took over. Copycat threads are kind of an indictment on the original thread and I don't think that thread deserved it.

I am a big fan of copycat threads. They often make me laugh out loud.

I rarely open them, just chuckle at teh cleverness. However, sometimes somebody makes an effort to justify their copycat and I think that is humorous as well.

I've been here a long time and can honestly say that I've never been on any other OU boards. I am on this one, I will occasionally post on ESPN.com but that is it as far as sports are concerned. I love this place, don't knock it

I understand you're frustration at times, but as mods, if we deleted or closed every thread we thought was dumb or annoying, there probably wouldn't be many left. However, that's part of what has always made Soonerfans a great place...because, most of the time, we don't take things too seriously. As mentioned earlier, the board is going through some grieving, so people tend to be a little more annoying (me included) than usual. But again, it's what makes it interesting.

I look at it as a good mod is like a good official, if we are doing our jobs right, you shouldn't realize us much (other than as members of the board).

Those of us that have been around since the Road Warrior days have seen Soonerfans go through ups and downs...and the downs usually follow a disappointing season. We'll be back to worrying about pointless plays in no time.

I'm a proponent of not opening threads that you dislike but copycat threads seem to get repeated over and over and fill up the first page of the board. At that point they're an annoyance even if you never open a single one of the threads.

This isn't my beef. I'm just adding in my opinion since someone else mentioned it.
