I was 13 years old. Jim Mackenzie passed away in 1967 leaving room for Fairbanks. Over the next six years, Fairbanks led the team to three Big Eight Conference titles, with 11–1 records during his final two seasons. Switzer inherited all of Fairbanks players(1973). Despite the probation, the Sooners, under his successor Barry Switzer, won two national titles in 1974 and 1975. Switzer went on to win the MNC in 85 and that was his lone accomplishment. You could say that he won the 74 and 75 MNC with Fairbanks players (sound familiar) Barry was always in the spotlight, he loved it. He also loved his players. It was the 80's a time of Mink Coats and Cadillac's. It was a time when we had to keep up with the Hurricanes with Irvin, Walsh and Bratton. Hell, the players had more money that the Coaches.

14 and remember Athlons picking Switzer to go 7-4 his first year. They were wrong by a long shot 10-0-1. Good times.

I would easily give The King credit for recruiting many of Fairbank's players.
