Put down the pipe, bro.

No need to be a prick. You see a four point win as a great win and I see it as a disaster if we play a really good Team. Sometimes you just have to put the past behind you Blue. If you don't I know it's not my problem though. Houston is 4-5....not a Top 25 Team and not undefeated. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games. I don't smoke a pipe but you might check what's in yours.

It wasn’t the prettiest win, in fact, it was pretty ugly, but it was a win. There were plenty of times the Sooners could have folded, because frankly it wasn’t their night, they were down by as many as nine at one point the 2nd half. But the Sooners pushed through, hanging on for a close 79-74 victory against the Houston Cougars in the All-College Classic Saturday evening.

Yep. no need talking to someone who called it 94-74 and thinks we played a kickass game....lol

I am happy we won and hopefully when we play KU, K-State, Mizzou and oSu in the first 4 games of our Big XII Schedule we will win those. That's when we know that Lon has eally changed the Team and put us back as a Team to be worried about in Big XII Play. Once that happens we can talk about March Madness and maybe even how Lon can begin to recruit the studs we need to be a Sweet 16, Big 8 or Final Four Team again. I love Basketball as much as Football. Matter of fact I played more Basketball than Football back in the Day. It's a great Sport and I like how Lon is changing things. The best thing that has happened to OU Basketball is that Castiglione sent Jeff Capel and Kelvin Sampson packing.

When arguably your best player is shooting 1 - 100 in the game and you still manage to hang in there and scratch and claw and pull out a win it's all good!

I agree. It was a great win. Houston came out in the 2nd half and really played well. They got up by 9 in a hurry. The Sooners stayed composed and eventually they were up by 8 at the end. Last year this team loses this game for certain. Kruger and Co, however, have a different mindset. I'm very excited about it.

It's a bit premature to start all the March Madness speculation, but I have no doubt that this team has the POTENTIAL to make it. Let's see if they can execute it.

As for S.T. claiming playing down and all that I have a different perspective. Teams.are.never at there best for every game. Clawing back after getting behind in the 2nd half shows character and composure. Something I'm happy to see.

Last week an OSU friend insisted that their loss to Pitt was more impressive than our win over Arky. I wonder if a loss to New Mexico is more impressive than a win over Houston as well. If so, with all of this winning the Sooners are missing out on some great quality losses.

Yeah I think New Mexico has won five in a row over BCS conference opponents. That said, one would think that this one and done superstar Nash might be able to get OSU a few more wins. At 6-4 with a game against Bama and league play approaching, the NIT might be in doubt.

In all honesty, we should have ran them out of the building. Our bigs shot pathetic all game long, going a combined 8-31 from the field. And 7 of 11 from the charity stripe.

Had our bigs had their average game shooting, then the final score would have been a lot worse than what it was.

Why is it too early to talk about the March Madness?

It isn't like this team is without talent. We have some good talent. Just need to do a better job at rebounding and getting more consistency out of all our forwards.

We will win at least 9 conference games this year, which will make us a bubble team. We should win against South Carolina State and Northwestern State. Cincinnati will be our toughest non-conference opponent. I also think we can do better than 9, with an upset here or there. I think Baylor in Norman is a toss up, same with KU in Norman.

That said, wins in conference:

vs. Kansas State
vs. Tech
@ Kansas State
vs. Iowa State
@ Tech
vs. Texas
@ Iowa State
vs. Oklahoma State
vs. A&M

That all said, we beat our final 3 non conference opponents will be 11-1. Get into conference and win 9 games, we are almost deserving of a spot in the NCAA's. 10 wins would guarantee a lock in the big dance.

I worry about complacency. The Sooners have really struggled the last few years, but this team looks HUNGRY. I think that hunger and drive is what it will take to get to the NCAA's.

Every game needs to be played like its our only shot. We won't win every game, but that drive will make it possible for the Sooners to make the field.

It's gonna get tougher before it gets easier.

It won't be easy by any means...not trying to make it sound like that. But this team has some talent on it and they are hungry.

This team would have been very good if Capel knew how to handle players. We have an identity now so it seems...and this team is very hungry.

The last couple of years we would play with most teams and lose late. This year it seems we have the determination to win those games.

I can agree with everything here. For sure.

I think New Mexico is pretty good aren't they? Doesn't Steve Alford coach there?

That being said, I get a warm fuzzy feeling seeing OSU lose
New Mexico has never been any good. When I lived out there they called 'em the Loblows.

I think ksu at manhattan will be tough....I'd say we might knock off ku or mu at home....we definitely will be in the games..

excited about the team and the way they are PLAYING..lost a little focus on boxing out last night..but so much more of a team it seems...

LOL, uh I've seen nothing that would convince me we can play with the likes of KU or MU.. easy people..might be getting a little ahead of ourselves.

I said we MIGHT knock them off...understood it was at home only...I'd give OU a hell of better chance this yr than the last 2...if we can beat who we are suppose to...(weren't we picked like 8th preseason...) at home and road...and pull a couple of upsets at home..which I think we can...go 7-9 overall I'd be tickled pink for this yr. We loose the big guy next yr but have 3 coming in plus the transfer...we should be decent next yr as well.

We have zero shot at beating Mizzou or KU this year. That being said, Kruger has done an excellent job with this team. They are much improved and playing great. I'm very happy with where they are at.

Also, All-College doesn't get much better than that, an OU win coupled with a Poke loss!

I thought we had a zero shot of beating Baylor in the Big 12 tourney last year... then a miracle gift from God in the form of a top-player suspension got us that elusive win :)

Key injuries, a player suspension or chemistry and coaching issues can quickly derail promising seasons (See Xavier, lol). No reason we can't be the beneficiary of such issues :D

OK, we have .09% shot to beat Mizzou or KU :D

Mizzou is playing like the best team in the Big 12. They keep this up and I expect them to make a big run in the Big Dance. Final 4, Elite 8 type season. KU has a lot of talent as always.

But you're right, I shouldn't completely write them off :D

Lloyd Christmas likes the chance you say we have ;)

And I do too, for no other reason than last season, even Lloyd Christmas wouldn't be asking if we had a chance.

We are improving, and if we, on our best day, meet them on a lesser good day for them, there's definitely a chance.

Last year, we'd have to hope that their bus broke down, or they canceled their season, or their top 10 scorers were all suspended and we would be facing their womens teams instead (which both aren't that good, for the record).

This year, we can have relatively more realistic hopes and dreams of their demises :D

FWIW, Mizzou always chokes in the NCAA's. Bank on it.

Quin: When I was coaching them, they were in the Elite Eight.

If Davidson can beat Kansas, anyone can :D
