Yeah, because the antibiotics knock down the microbial community in your gut. That's how you get the infection of Clostridium in the first place. Some antiobiotics they also know out your gut flora along with whatever infection that you are fighting and Clostridium moves in and takes their place.

So you basically are taking a ton more antibiotics and knocking out everything in the gut including the Clostridium. And completely replacing it with good stuff.

I wonder if they tried taking probiotics first? I had pnemonia a few years ago and needed antibiotics. I started getting staph infections after that and that required more antibiotics. After three rounds of that I decided to try to repopulate the good guy gut bacteria by taking probiotics for a while. I used Jarro-Dophilus EPS and another brand whose name escapes me at this time. While I can't prove that the probiotics prevented more infections, I didn't get any more infections after taking them.

In the interests of being intellectually honest, I must disclose that the probiotic use was just one part of a "defense in-depth" staph infection prevention program.
