Ohio State defeated UCLA by 21 in the '75 regular season. Ohio State is the only major program undefeated going into the bowls. Oklahoma was carrying a 10-1 record into the Orange Bowl.

Rose Bowl Game: Ohio State vs. UCLA

Even though it had been 11 years since the AP decided to vote after the bowls, I wonder what their mindset was about this game? Buckeyes won regular season game. Why prove it again vs. the same team? The end result was a UCLA win and OU's Orange Bowl win gave the Sooners the national title.

It was the BCS's fault!

Simple. At the time, the Rose Bowl stuck to Pac-8 champ vs. Big-10 champ no matter what. Bad for Ohio State, good for us.

It's funny - despite how much we complain about the BCS (myself included) - it is far superior to what we used to have in place in my opinion.

Wait, I thought the BCS ruined the sport!!! People all too often forget how the National Championship was determined before the BCS.

Yes, it was wonderful that the Buckeyes thought an AP national championship nor a Rose Bowl trophy were worth it.
