SoonerMom2
12/4/2011, 05:36 PM
If we are announced for the Alamo Bowl which is the projection against Washington, it will mean that OSU is going to The Fiesta Bowl because if they were in the NC, all the Big 12 teams would move up one bowl! :)

We don't want to face a team that does not deserve to be on the field with OU.

12/4/2011, 05:50 PM

or than the Alamo bowl picked us over Baylor for whatever reason. the picking order isn't only really approximate to conference standings

Sooner95
12/4/2011, 05:57 PM
right, it's just the selection order.

Following is the Big 12's selection order:
BCS - Tostitos Fiesta
AT&T Cotton (SEC)
Valero Alamo (Pac-10)
Insight (Big Ten)
Bridgepoint Holiday (Pac-10)
Texas (Big Ten)
New Era Pinstripe (Big East)

Can you imagine the folks that would be calling after that?

SoonerMom2
12/4/2011, 05:59 PM
Was just on Twitter and sources say the Harris Poll is in and it is AL versus LSU

Blevins said had to be major switches in Harris for OSU to get in the National Championship game. Is Boone going to follow through with his threat to investigate if OSU gets left out. That would have been enough for me to lower OSU!

@JoeNBC (Joe Scarborough)
Hope they are right. RT @EthanOgle Just got a message from someone I trust that said Harris Poll is in and that Alabama is in BCS title game

colleyvillesooner

Baylor is going to the Alamo, Texas to the Holiday. Means OU in insight vs probably Iowa. KSU to Cotton. Which means OSU to fiesta.

No way anyone would pick OU after that loss last night to oSu. If I had a choice I'd look at the hype RGIII is getting as a Heisman Front runner and that blow out they gave fexas and I'd pick Baylor immediately.

Alamo Bowl has been wanting the Sooners for years and if they had a chance, believe we would get the nod. Cancelled my bowl tickets from OU as a game on the 29th does not fit into a schedule for a 2nd Christmas in Denver after the 25th.

You would be correct.

Texas A&M and Northwestern have accepted bids to play in the 2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, the bowl organizing committee announced today. The Aggies will represent the Big 12 and the Wildcats will represent the Big Ten

Arky is the 3rd team in the SEC, the Cotton doesn't get the third team in the SEC.

MeMyself&Me
12/4/2011, 06:41 PM
Yes, given the already released details, KSU in a BCS bowl with OU in the Cotton makes sense.

BCS NC: LSU vs Bama
Sugar: Michigan vs KSU
Fiesta: OSU vs Stanford
Orange: Clemson vs West Virginia
Rose: Wisconsin vs Oregon

The spots that I'm not sure would be the Stanford spot in the Fiesta but if wrong, they'd just be swapped with Michigan in the Sugar. Either way, KSU is likely in.

Us getting a Cotton bowl bid, I'm just not buying. If so, then the Insight is not filling their Big12 team?

MeMyself&Me
12/4/2011, 06:46 PM
Important to remember that the order of selection if the NC game is LSU/Bama would be Sugar, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange.

MeMyself&Me
12/4/2011, 06:47 PM
Us getting a Cotton bowl bid, I'm just not buying. If so, then the Insight is not filling their Big12 team?

Then that means that the BCS bowls did not take KSU and instead took someone else. Choices will be:

#6 Boise State (going elsewhere according to reports)
#8 Kansas State
#11 Baylor (going elsewhere according to reports)
#12 Virginia Tech
#14 Houston (heh)

8timechamps

Arky is the 3rd team in the SEC, the Cotton doesn't get the third team in the SEC.

I don't think it works that way anymore. I think the Cotton bowl (like the other non-BCS bowls) pick based on order, and they can use it to take the highest ranked SEC team, but they are not bound to it.

Of course, I could be wrong...but I have such a HUGE brain, it's unlikely.

Sooner95
12/4/2011, 07:02 PM
Yea that makes more sense..

Following is the Big 12's selection order:

BCS - Tostitos Fiesta - Pokes
AT&T Cotton (SEC) - KSU
Valero Alamo (Pac-10) - Baylor
Insight (Big Ten) - Oklahoma
Bridgepoint Holiday (Pac-10) - Texas
Texas (Big Ten) - A&M

See, I don't know much about the picking order, so I can certainly see why the Capital One bowl (if picking before the Cotton Bowl) would take Arky. Guess my brain isn't as big as I thought....still pretty damn big though!

I'm hoping Cotton. My brother's company bid on a "Dallas sports package" at an auction during the Texas State Fair and we got tickets to a bunch of Mavs games, Stars games, Kaboy games, Ranger games, and the Cotton Bowl. Parking included, primo seats, etc. They got it and he called a minute ago to say "if they go to the Cotton, we're in like Flynn." Sweet.

Insight Bowl is in Tempe at Sun Devil Stadium.
I think the Insight Bowl was formerly known as the Copper Bowl and was played in Tucson, the site of Gibbs last game and Schnellenberger in the booth. When Insight became the sponsor the game was moved to Bank One Ballpark and then moved to Tempe after the Fiesta Bowl moved to UoP Stadium.

Wow, EIGHT Big 12 teams are playing in a bowl this post season.

And we lost to 1 of the 2 teams in the Big 12 who didn't get a bowl bid.

I should have put this post on this thread rather than start a new one. mods please assist if you can.

I have a feeling the BCS will not get extended. We have an environment where the subjective part (2/3s) of BCS is starting to provide a feedback loop for the SEC. The idea that the SEC is tougher continues to provide it better opportunities which gives them the results that feed next year's "tougher" viewpoint.

It's a never ending cycle.

2+1 is not the answer either.

8 team playoff is not inclusive enough.

We need a 20+ team playoff. Get FOX and NBC more involved with CFB to mitigate the ABC/ESPN influence.

The problem is everyone has staggered TV contract deals. No way you can convince 3 leagues to cancel their deals early to consolidate into a college league.

I hope our conference will let FOX compete with ABC for our tier 1 in 2015. I wouldn't mind getting FOX/FX/FSN to counter ABC/ESPN.

I will be too. I mean we have problems but we have to win the game. I hope the team doesn't take on the mentality of the fans w/ their heads down. Sure I'm disappointed at the season but this has to be a bowl win. If we lost then I'd be really pissed.

man....the Cotton bowl made out pretty well

two teams within close proximity that were eligible but were left out of a BCS game.

might be one of the better nonbcs games....hell might be better than the BCS games

I'm hoping that we can get either Fox or NBC to treat the Big 12 the way that CBS treats the SEC. Either one has room to have one full conference to themselves.

It's real easy...you lose what was basically your chance at the Big 12 Championship, and the team that won the Big 12 Championship doesn't get into the BCS National Championship. so they get bumped to the fiesta. All this is solved if we had just beat texas tech, baylor and osu. That didn't seem like asking for too much at the beginning of the season, but my what a difference a few months of college football makes

I forgot the NBC also has VS. ABC/ESPN is too saturated with games and has too much influence with the games and the sports news combined.

Yup. Praying that it's not going to be ABC again. It's the single biggest thing I'm hoping for regarding the future of the Big 12.

Iowa isn't going to be a pushover and don't think for a second that they won't be motivated for this game. It's a fairly familiar situation for OUr sooners, another bowl matchup against a team that has nothing to lose and wants to prove a lot.
Not to mention they have a RB who is legit. I followed his stats closely because he was one of my RBs on my college fantasy football team. He's had several games over 100 yds including several games with two tds.
I had to look their QBs stats up to see what we'll be dealing with. Looks like he's no slouch either. 2806 yds passing 28 tds 6 ints.
That said, sure the big 10 is weak, but I'm just saying what many of us already know...OU better go into this bowl game motivated and ready to play against a team who really wants to beat us.

Their QB isn't good but yes they have a decent back. They will play really physical if the team comes out soft it'll be a closer game than it should be. Rus it's not no win. If we win it'll be a 10 win season.

How does Mich St lose the Big 10 championship game and then finished lower that division rival Michigan, Michigan then goes to a BCS game and Michigan State plays Georgia in a non-BCS matchup. I thought the BCS games were supposed to be better teams. My head is spinning

Yeah I was just basing their QB not being a slouch on his stats alone. I'd be lying if I said I specifically remember watching him play at all. So if I have seen him play, no sparks must have been flying.
