Sometimes, people spend too much time in Washington DC and get disconnected from real life after so much of their lives are spent in politics.

He advocates a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens.

actually, he does not. the red card scheme is a worker visa program that does not lead to citizenship.

I differ with libertarians in general on a few issues namely immigration and free trade. Although, Paul of course has suggested that he he wants to bring the troops home and deploy them to the US-Mexican border which is perfectly in line with my position. Though Ron Paul wouldn't likely issue those 'shoot to kill' orders that I would. ;)

There wouldn't be that many to shoot - just the drug runners - since he'd let guest workers through legal ports of entry.

And for all of that, if he HAS to be the Republican choice. I'll vote for him over the guy currently in there, and know the future of our country would be in better hands than presently.

Not a lot better mind you. At the least, I know he would cancel the executive orders mandating abortion provision federally. That might save a life or two, or thousands.

Low info voters weren't what won SC for Newt. But, you are right about the problem.

Regardless of who is in the election for president, 40% will vote for a dem and 40% will vote for a repub. That leaves 20% that swings the election.

Of that 20% only a fraction is informed, intellectually mature or 2 standard deviations above the normal IQ. Therefore, the informed, logical swing voter is maybe 2-4% of the vote.

So, essentially, the 15-18% of voters that are ill informed, emotional or just plain stupid are the voters who determine the president. That is why sound bites and emotional messages(fear, hope, etc) sway the election.

In primaries, you have the 40% from either party voting. The ill informed vote is split, but it isn't the same ill informed vote that eventually elects the president.

It use to be like that long ago but many people are disconnecting from the traditional party lines.

The "Paul's" of the world are something I'm sure the country needs, however I think it will be at least another 8-16 years before we find out how that works out...

I don't think it's this Paul that we need...
