I have a friend that has always pestered me to see this movie. Surprisingly, I never did, despite liking a lot of Mike Judge's other stuff. (Office Space) Finally, this week I saw it.

Now, as a movie it is OK, kind of lower budget and due to the nature of the movie lots of dumb people prattling around. As social commentary it works much better, though. The premise, that the dumbest people will out-populate the smart people, seems hard to argue with, but this is the internet, so someone will.

I think with the competition in society for the best and brightest, we'll always have people that are extremely intelligent around, but feel like we will have lots of further dumbing down in the future. Look at the letters civil war soldiers wrote home, they sound like Shakespeare compared to the average 20 year old's writing ability today. I'm referring of course to the Confederate soldier's letters, Sickem.

I wasn't sure if this was South Oval discussion, or Obamafest. I'll do my part to keep it scholarly.

This has clearly already happened.

The truth lies in this quote that I read long ago.....

"The sum intelligence of the planet is a constant, the population is ever expanding."

I googled this and found it also posted at DirtRider.net, another good forum.

Just saw this commercial for The Sitter:

I've seen Office Space a dozen times, and I never took anything serious from it. You must be smarter than me...but that's not hard.

I first saw it come up in a DOS program called Murphy that generated random quotes. I had some great ones in there.

You know about DOS? You should be put in suspended animation, like Luke Wilson.

Don’t worry, scrote. There are plenty of ‘tards out there living really kick-*** lives. My first wife was ‘tarded. She’s a pilot now.

If you don't think the idiots already outnumber the rest of us, you have never
(a) received a chain email
(b) visited the Obamafest forum
(c) signed up for facebook (which proves even that most of your "friends" are stupider than you thought)
(d).... well, I could go on

If you want to know how close we've come to Idiocracy, just go to any of the major internet news sources, yahoo, CNN, whatever, and read the comments section under just about any story. Even excusing all the misspellings and atrocious grammar, someone who didn't know any better would think that most of the comments were written by people with a middle school education, at best.
