View Full Version : Saw a headline that said "Belldozer Formation works 17 out of 25 times".

There was no info on the 8 times we ran it that it did not work. I must have been in the kitchen as I don't remember when it didn't work.

Anyone remember when the formation didn't work?

I can think of 3 plays (the penalty, one where he threw, and one late in the aTm game where they stuffed him).

60% of the time it works everytime.

And it's made from real panther, so you know it's good.

There was a fumble once...couldn't tell if it was on Finch or Bell, but the ball got knocked loose. Think it was the KSU game.

Yeah, I think that was the one that Stoops jokingly said in his presser they weren't going to run the formation any more.

I wonder how soon other schools will try this formation. I wouldn't be suprised if ISU or OSU try it.

I'm waiting for Florida to try it.

the only instances I recall that it didn't work was during the first game we tried it (twice - fumble and something else bad happening), and then the pass in the subsequent game.

Venables invented the play on a Cocktail napkin for Bob as a joke. Jay Norvell found it on the table and had it inserted into the playbook. He wasn't gonna ever use it but Josh called it once while Jay was taking a leak and the rest is history. If Venables had been fired their would be no Dozer play.

True Story.

I was wondering what the success rate. I knew it was good, that's why I was okay with the two point conversion attempt.

Ok, 70%. Now how many of you would go to work if you were told there's a 70% chance you'd come home alive? I thought so. Scrap the Belldozer!

Defenders go back to the huddle in pain 100% of the time.

Maybe one day all our xtra points will be a 2 point Belldoxzer play. I think we average 7 TDs a game.

We could have 7 xtra points or 0.70 x 14 = 9.8 (or 9 to 10 points)

It's a good concept as if the percentage of success is that high it really would put more points on the board....however....if you don't recruit a guy like Blake....you might have trouble getting a decent kicker to come to OU as you are taking away one of his jobs on Special Teams. Then again....if you need one point to win the game....what do you do if your kicker hasn't kicked one extra point that year?
