Just saw this on the news. How tragic for that school to lose more people in the same fashion, they've got to be in complete shock. RIP

I found myself tearing up when I heard the tragic news. Coach Budke was so likable. I was 17 when my father was killed in a car accident. My grandmother, his mother, came into the room where I was sitting in her house and she told me the devestating news. I just kept asking "What? What? What?" I could not grasp my daddy being gone. Thank God my mother and my little brother survived the accident and recovered fully. My dad was driving the car. As he was near death his concern was never for himself. Instead he cared more about my mother's and brother's welfare. His last words were words of apology to them, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry." My prayers and tears go out to the family of Coach Budke and the other three victims.

Tons of info here. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/article.aspx?subjectid=234&articleid=20111118_234_0_Aunive379629)

I will admit that I was not the most enthusiastic OU womens basketball fan when OSU suddenly had a star player in Andrea Riley and a competent coach that could win in Kurt Budke, but there was a begrudging respect for the guy I coined "Butt-Key" in some womens bball blog entries in previous seasons. Sherri and Kurt respected and liked each other and while they both wanted to win, they went about it in the right way.

It was beyond sad to see the OSU president (Hargis) get choked up in the presser that they just showed. I will try to get a link up later today.

Sherri was apparently not short on words when asked about Budke before the team left for New Mexico:

An excerpt:

I had such great respect for Kurt. I can tell ya, he put the fun back in the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State rivalry. He wore that neon jacket and we'd meet at halfcourt. I would try to get something funny in, and he'd beat me to it every time. He'd bust on himself before I could even say anything. That self-deprecating humor made it impossible to not like him.

Tragic, especially considering how young the coach and his assistant were. When things like this happen, it is a reminder to me how really unimportant sports are.

I must say though that I was surprised if not a little shocked to read that the plane involved was built in 1964. Seems to me that a university with the backing of TBP could easily afford aircraft for their fleet that is much newer than that.
