I know I should love Radiohead since they have great music and are really talented and smart... but I just don't. I think they sound boring and rarely produce anything catchy. I can appreciate how diverse their sound is, but I just don't enjoy it.

Define several decades? Quite a gamut there, from Who's Next and Abbey Road to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and American IV: The Man Comes Around.

It's really a matter of being one of those albums that should be consumed as a whole with headphones...a masterwork. Hearing Karmapolice on MTV just isn't quite the same effect.

I saw TMBG at a little place in ATL, one of the most theatrical shows I've seen.

The reason I'm not buying into some of these other suggestions, including The Bends , is they don't have that old school complete album feel. OK Computer is an experience, and took the rock world by storm, in terms of impact.

I remember meeting those guys one night when they were still just a bar band in Texas. A buddy of mine even got them all to autograph some indie album they had at the time. Darrell was going by Diamond Darrell then instead of the Dimebag that he adopted later. My buddy would later trade that album for an ounce of weed. He later regretted that. Big time.

Keep in mind guys, if we are talking about the greatest rock album of two decades, it has to be huge in terms of scope, influence, commercial success, and of course musically.

Think of the lumbering giants of the seventies. The way they seemed so complete.

Foo Fighters may be the most consistently great band of the last 2 decades. Every album they have released has been great, with no dropoff or changing thecway they sound just to do something different. In a rock world that has been overtaken by pure crap like nickelback and hinder, the Foo still stand strong and give me hope that good rock will always be around.

Like '80s Aerosmith, it just seems like the old formula of hooks and repetition.

The Foo Fighters are good old fun straight up rock and roll. Everlong was really something. However, your characterization is spot on. The never blew away the music world, or turned anything on it's ear. That's not a knock on Grohl and the gang. Almost no one does that anymore.

You are mistaken. Geddy may not be Pavarotti, but he's got a great rock voice. Might as well trash Robert Plant, and for that you would get 40 lashes with a wet noodle.

I encourage all of you kind readers to view Beyond The Lighted Stage and see Rush for who they really are and all the musicians they have influenced.

Beethoven is timeless. That's kind of the point. I've outgrown 75% of the music I used to listen to. That's how I know that 25% is the real deal.

^this.

Black is the only song on that album I ever really cared for.

Although it wasn't released on the Ten album, my favorite PJ song of all time is still Yellow Ledbetter. I think it was supposed to be on Ten, but they ran out of room or something like that. I actually got it on a single copy (remember those?) with Jeremy.

1. KISS unplugged
2. The Killers - mentioned above
3. KISS Psycho Circus

New Van Halen might trump them all in a few months.

My taste in rock probably isn't like anyone else's on this board because Cake is my favorite band. Naturally, that means Fashion Nugget is my favorite rock album of the last couple of decades. But that's just me.

Had them in my head on my way to practice everyday this fall.

That's a great list Ron. I'm a rare bird that thought The Killers were just pretty OK, bit I never bought the album, so I definately could be missing out
It does not compare this, imo...

There are more- mayonaise, spaceboy, silver****, luna

Damn solid album, popular, blew a lot of people away. I starting to dig them when Gish came out.

I can't argue with that. That album was huge.

Billy really brought that wall of guitars to a new level.

Speaking of wall of guitars (bass actually)... This one barely slips in.

I have to say that I am partial to the big noise of the early 90's. I mean, I love clean tracks, as well, but the shoe gazers and alike really had it going on.

Watching Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in concert on HDNet. Reminded that Wildflowers should be considered one of the best of the past 20 years.
