Still early, but there is a possibility the 2012 class could be the best class in Stoops' tenure (on paper). If OU can manage to land DGB and Mario Edwards (adding Trey Metoyer as a 2012 signer), then I think there would be no question that 2012 would be the best to-date.

What are you going by? Stars? Position rankings? Either way, I'd have to say the 2006 class was his best ever...

This can only be truely determined 3-4 years from now. But as you said it does have some promise.

Just on stars (and only Rivals). That 2006 class was amazing (just looking at the names and impact players on that list). As BigTime1 said, we won't know for 3 or 4 years, but if Stoops lands DGB (and considering Metoyer a 2012 signee), this would be the best WR class without a doubt (again, at least on paper/stars).

This list is loaded with big names....I don't know how 12 will pan out so I vote 06.

What's the status of Meteyor this year? Is he a sure thing with his academics?

As far as ratings go, if we got those two this should be our best class on paper. But as many have said, it hasn't done anything yet, so the actual best class won't be determined for a while. It's gonna be hard for this class to produce 3 top 4 draft picks and a Heisman trophy winner, though.

Where do we stand with these two guys? I know that Mario Edwards is a soft verbal to FSU.

It's funny to go back and look at those lists now. We now know what they did and how special they were, but looking at how they rated then shows how much those star ratings are really worth. Adron Tennell was the highest rated wide receiver.

Nothing new on either. Edwards still has a soft verbal to FSU, but it's been made public that he favors OU. As for DGB, I know OU is on his final list, but it's wait and see.

As for Metoyer, he's been playing at Hargrave Military, and is still on track to be at OU in January. Here's a few pics of him in action (as you can see, he's got some size):

Yeah I was under the impression the guy who commited to FSU took back his verbal and is back in the recruiting process. Jumped to early at making a decision he said and that OU was now his top choice.

Cross DGB off the list. oudavid says we have no chance.

In that case, we should be a shoe in.

I'd go with 2006 as well. What a loaded class!

2006 was great with what 5 all americans and several other great players like DM
don't forget the 2000 class ended up having 5 all american's also: Jamal Brown, Dan Cody, Perkins, Lehman, Clayton.
Heck the '99 class had what 4 all americans not to mention Torrance Marshall, Q and Savage who ended up doing pretty well.

2012 has the potential to be very good. We could definitely have the best offensive class (Metoyer, DGB, Darlington, McGee, Ross, Shepard). Even if all of those guys get here, I think Edwards is the most important recruit next year. If we could have a true wrecker at DE who cold come in and immediately produce, that could be the key for our next few years.

I agree completely. If we don't land DGB, we'll still have a loaded stable of receivers. However, landing a guy like Edwards (like Tommie Harris, a guy that can come in as a freshman and make big plays) could really benefit next years defense (especially with the loss of Alexander).
