View Full Version : Lucky to beat A&M?

On the Sports Animal today (I think I'll just listen to static next time) Mark Rogers was saying that OU was lucky to beat A&M and that we had trouble "salting the game away" and that you can't win big games playing like that. Well, the last I checked we've already won a few big games this year. He characterized that outburst in the third quarter as a function of luck.

Look, OU has their issues. The running game is not where we want it to be and we have inconsistency on defense at times. However, I watched that game and we were a hell of a lot closer to opening up a 40+ point lead than we were to losing it. Maybe OU is not a national championship contender this season. Maybe we won't even win the Big XII. Maybe we'll end up as an at-large BCS team, but how the hell anyone could say we were lucky to win on Saturday is beyond me. Those were not fluke turnovers or trick plays for TDs. A&M played us close in the first half and then we wore them down and beat their asses. That is what I saw on Saturday.

I never thought the game was in doubt

I think that A&M was lucky that they didn't lose by 50 is a more accurate statement.

I've never seen the appeal of Mark Rogers. I think he's paranoid.

Yeah, I heard that.

I've been perplexed by the media in this state's reaction to the games over the weekend. They seem to have written us off since losing Broyles, and don't have a bit of criticism for OSU for what happened to them on Saturday night.

I wasn't happy with the mode the defense went into after building the 41-10 lead. The level of play wasn't close to what it was when the lead was built, and it is alarming that one loss already this season has apparently not hammered home the fact that they have to bring it for four quarters. But to say that OU was lucky to get that win is ridiculous.

And you can't call OSU an NC contender and just let them off the hook for what the K-State offense was able to do to them on Saturday night.

I think if we got about 50 people to call into his show and say "Oklahoma needs new coachin" we could make his head esplode:nightmare:

Pffffft! Let Rodgers talk, the more negative talk the players hear, the harder they will play.

You mean because we absolutely smoked k-state in Manhattan and oSu got their pants pulled down at home by the same team? I read this morning where oSu showed resolve in that win. They certainly did that but they also showed that they have some issues.

A&M is already on to complaining about something besides losing to OU: Texas tickets.

am I disappointed that we've lost too many players and a game we never should have and thus are all but out of the national title hunt (and would run a strong risk of being hammered if we somehow lucked into it, no matter how toothless LSU and 'Bama looked)? Yes, yes I am.
Does that mean that the season is a lost cause? Not at all. We were losing Broyles at the end of this season anyway. Looked at one way, he's gone a few games early. Let's see what Bob gets going to fill the gaps left by both him and Whaley. It's what good programs do.
As to OSU, I remain confident that we can beat them, along with Baylor and ISU.
And, frankly, TAMU was lucky they weren't beat by 50.

We were CLEARLY the better team on Saturday. The reason I was so POed at halftime was because it was obvious, but it was only 13-10 and we gave up an inexcusable 80 yard TD pass.

The wind did not do anybody any favors on Saturday.

I do believe they said in the post game show that 10 points was aTm's lowest point total of the season at halftime.

The wind didn't do us any favors, but we sure as heck took advantage of it when it was in our favor. We kept that 3rd quarter going like what seemed forever. Did they punt 4 or 5 times in that quarter? Game was decided when the 3rd was over. They did take some advantage in the 4th, but it was too late and some of that was because we knew the game was in hand. I also think Broyles injury took some steam out of our guys and I guarantee they knew what was going on.

The game was over at 42-10. At that point OU called off the dogs, simple as that.

Rogers is bitter because OU pulled his sideline credentials after he "Guaranteed there was more to the Big Red Sports deal, and if you didn't think so, you were a fool." Cost him his job as the sideline reporter for OU.

Mark is trying to rile people up, mainly the OU team. He's taken it up on himself to be that voice in the media that lights a fire under this team. Who knows whether it will work. Mark dreams of nothing more, than to see this OU team crush the dreams of Okie St.

I would be hard pressed to concentrate too after seeing the all time leader in pass receptions and my team leader end his career right in front of me.
