NORMAN, Oklahoma -
The Tulsa World's John Hoover reported via Twitter that Oklahoma wide receiver Ryan Broyles suffered a torn ACL Saturday against Texas A&M and will miss the rest of his senior season.
Broyles sustained the injury in the third quarter trying to spin out of a tackle. He landed awkwardly on his left leg, which buckled under his weight. He had to be helped off the field, and was seen minutes later in tears on the sidelines and being consoled by the OU training staff.
The injury will end Broyles' career at OU, where he rewrote the school record books. He has the most career receptions, yards and touchdowns in school history, and broke the NCAA record for receptions in a career earlier this season.
The recovery time for a torn ACL generally is 8-12 months, which may affect Broyles' readiness for the NFL Draft. If that timetable holds, he will not be able to take part in the NFL Scouting Combine in February, which gives teams a chance to see players in person going into the draft.
That means teams will not be able to see if he has recovered fully before making their decisions for the NFL Draft in April, which likely will damage Broyles' draft stock. Coming into Saturday's game, he was commonly projected as an early second-round draft pick.
