Saw the trainer whisper something to him and he dropped his head. Not looking good.

Austin Box is watching over this team and players and we will survive because of that reason. If Ryan is gone, not even a injury can take away what he has become and what he gave us....

I do not like to speculate until I hear the official word, but all you can do is admire someone for passing up a fortune to come back and try to win a national championship.

Entirely too early to speculate, but does anyone know the rules on medically red-shirting a player? Is it too late in the season?

I thought it had to be before the 4th game of the season.

Even if it wasn't too late, I don't think he'd do it.

This is what Wikipedia stated. It would have to be verified.

A special case involves the eligibility of a player who loses the majority of a season to injury. Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted an athlete who appears in fewer than 30% of his or her team's competitions (with none coming after the midway point of the season), then suffers a season-ending injury. A player who is granted such a waiver is treated for the purposes of their eligibility as though he or she had not competed in that season.

On rare occasions, a player may be allowed to play in his or her sixth year of college if he or she suffered a serious injury which kept him or her from playing for more than one season. Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Jason White is perhaps the best known example of this, as he had redshirted his freshman year, then subsequently tore the ACL in both knees, causing him to miss nearly two years of eligible playing time.

Way too late. I think more than 3 games disqualifies you. Not an option.

Are we really talking about redshirt when the guy just got hurt? Come on that's pretty ****ty.

If it's serious I doubt he has time to get ready for NFL combine.

I knew there was some kind of deadline, just didn't know when. Well, hope that Ryan's injury is repairable so he can go on to bigger things (and get paid).

It is but if it is an ACL then yea he's probably done for the year. This **** is sad.

Really, why, because I am not reacting the way you are? I feel horrible for Ryan. He gave up the NFL to try and come back and win a title. I'd hate to have his last game as a Sooner end with an injury. Not to mention, if it's that bad, he's not going to be able to workout for NFL scouts or be ready for the combine.

Sorry my thoughts don't follow your guidelines. And quite frankly, I don't give a ****.

Would imagine he has an insurance policy in place this year, since he came back instead of going NFL. Not to say his NFL prospects are hurt that bad, at least I hope not.

Agreed, and in this day and age even torn ACL/MCL seems not to be career ending. He may miss the combine (if it is, in fact, that serious), but I don't think his NFL career would be in jeopardy.

At least I hope not.

Naw, it won't be in jeopardy. I think he'll still have a successful NFL career.

The only silver lining that I see was that he did not seem to be in that much physical pain, and he was getting around on it. I would think if they thought it was a severe tear they would not let him walk around on it without some serious stabalizers

Some ACL tears don't hurt, you just can't stand. I was hoping it was just an ACL sprain.

I believe you can play the entire season, and if you get hurt within 24 hours of the last game you can get a medical redshirt for that year. I'll have to look it up, but that's how I remember it.

Um NO. It is way, way, way too late for a medical RS for Broyles.

8timechamps

here's the official rule (and, as mentioned, it is too late):

The medical hardship waiver can
be requested to the appropriate
conference or to the NCAA if the
institution is an independent.
The following situation must
be met per NCAA rules: a) the
incapacitating injury or illness
occurs either during the senior
year of high school or during
one of the four seasons of
intercollegiate competition, b) the
injury or illness occurs prior to
the first half of the playing season
that concludes with the NCAA
Championship in that sport, and
c) the student-athlete has not
participated in more than two
contests or 20% of the scheduled
contests (whichever is greater).

I agree. from the stuff that happened with the key to free gas to what he's become. in my mind, losing whaley and broyles(cappie obvious) feels like we lost 2 MAJOR impact players that wouldn't let us down the rest of the season.

I wish the best for those guys.
