Why did we lose to tech?

The team thought they could just saunter out and the home winning streak would win the game for them.

At least that's one less thing to distract them...

This one was easy to see. Letdowns after big wins happen all the time. Lot of time tho.

Who says I didn't? Not my house but I did put a little on Iowa State 1st half. The line was Tech -15. I was afraid of them waking up in the 2nd half so I took Iowa Stat +8.

Announcer: "this is almost like what Tech did to OU last week."

If Tech makes a comeback with a chance to take it to OT, then its the same. As of now, Tech wont make a comeback like OU tried to do. Besides, its freakin Iowa St!!!

Just because this got me curious...

Tulsa: Beat Tulane 9-10-11
Florida State: Lost to Clemson 9-24-11
Mizzery: Bye week, but lost following week to KSU (10-8-11)
Ball State: Lost to Temple 10-8-11
*: Lost to Pokeys 10-15-11
Kansas: Lost to KSU 10-22-11
Taco Tech: Loses to ISU 10-29

All teams lost games right after playing us with the exception of Tulsa.

it just proves that we lost to a really crappy team because Bob and the boys didn't pull their collective heads outta their asses. The fact that we saw TEs and the FB getting the ball today, as well as a few shuttle passes, and a little bit of Bell in the RZ shows they can be creative if they want. Which just makes last week that much more annoying and unnecessary.

VA Sooner

Don't know where they came from but enjoyed every minute of it... and watching that smile on Tuberville's face disappear. Definitely enjoyed the blow-out... will hopefully look more and more like a fluke that we dropped our game against Tech because we were missing 4 starters, especially 3 on defense.

SoonerKnight
10/30/2011, 12:02 AM
Actually it proves that we have kids playing on our team and it is not easy to get them to win every single week!! So, I think this team has learned that they need to play hard every week!! Possibly ready to kick *** from now on. Coach H has learned to use the TE position a little more and good things happen.

Agreed...and the fact it was at home makes it an even greater embarrassment and will
probably result in more residual damage at the end of the season if OU happens to be in a pool of one loss teams vying for the second slot in the MNC game.

Doesn't matter if OU wins out, that loss to Tech absolutely kills us. Especially when they go and lose 41-7 to freaking Iowa State.

IDK, if we go on to win out in similar fashion to yesterday, it could make the Tech game look like just a total fluke, and lend credence to opinions that maybe the whole team did have food poisoning, or that the injuries that were out that game were just one too many in all the wrong places, or whatever--just a perfect storm of bad circumstances that allowed Tech to get the win, and not a true indication of the abilities of this team. It could happen!!!

We lose more games being favored by 20+ than any team in the history of college fball. wtf how did we lose to that fricken team

Jacie
10/30/2011, 10:04 AM
Because of Oklahoma's dominance of college football since 1945, one result of a little-known clause in OUr contract with the devil is that every so often, when ranked #1, the Sooners are required to tank a game against a double-digit underdog . . .

SoonerAtKU
10/30/2011, 10:20 AM
The flip side, of course, is that when you are ranked #1 more often than any other team and you are favored by 20+ more than other teams, the odds are that any game you lose will be to a "lesser" team.

Tends to skew the results a bit.

I kinda got that impression from the espin talking heads. You have to think a lot of voters had us in the title game before the season, they want to see their predictions filled.. I feel this kinda helped us in 08 vs texas....along with sos which will help this year. I don't think the loss to tech will hurt us as much as some of you think.

Confidence is one thing. Arogance is another, and this coaching staff shows very little ability to make in game adjustments.

Except for yesterday?

Except for yesterday AFTER halftime. Defensively.

I always considered Venables to be an amazing linebackers coach. But our LBs in the first half were making some pretty glaring, elementary mistakes in their aggressiveness. And it bit us right on the butt in the 2nd. Jumping gaps WAY too early and not staying flat in sideline to sideline pursuit were dangerously obvious and wouldn't you know it, here comes the A and B gap isos and we're one good kickout or fold away from a big gainer on the ground.

Come halftime, BV screwed those boys heads back on and got 'em playing solid fundamental football across the LBs. And wouldn't you know it, the run disappeared.

Point being, that could've changed after the first few defensive series once it was seen, the basic mistakes our boys were making in trying to be world killers. It got fixed, but it should've been fixed early on with some simple coaching.

Particularly galling is ISU ran for nearly 350 yards on Tech and limited them to 170 passing...exactly the gameplan we should've had. Or executed.

Damn, I want to blame somebody, but is it the coaches fault? You think they were sitting around discussing whether they should have a creative game plan or not, then looked at each other and said, "Nahhh, it's just Tech for gawd's sake" and went and golfed instead of doing more planning?

The whole thing is just so other worldly that I am about to quit trying to point fingers and go with the food poisoning thing to put my mind at rest.
