His dad did that interview with the Oklahoman, where his dad said he was upset when Austin told him he wanted out at OU, but to find a program where he'd be happy. Perhaps he looked around and realized he'd be happiest where he started.

Or perhaps, he just visited Hoosierville and realized what crap facilities even their basketball program has. Kelvin Sampson reportedly told IU when he was coach there that they needed to up their facilities to attract recruits, and IU told him "These are the same facilities that Bobby Knight won with."

I think he needs to grow up - sounds like a center of the universe prima dona that doesn't know the meaning of the word "work".

If he wants back, then make him redshirt next year.

To me he sounds like a confused teenager. Many teenagers are confused when they are in college. Many teenagers consider dropping out or going somewhere else. I wish the best for the kid. My personal opinion, without knowing his circumstance, is that staying with OU football is best for the kid.

Good future for the young man... and will be missed. But we recruit, coach and move on... just like we did with ENA.

Good luck, young man. Hope this isn't an attitude thing... because if it is, you won't find happiness anywhere then.

Stoops also addressed a rumor that Jonathan Miller wanted back on instead of going to Illinois State after Whaley got injured, in addition to the Haywood rumor. Apparently the questions annoyed Stoops.

Unlike a certain [hairGel], Bob doesn't lie to the media. If he didn't want us all do know that Miller and Haywood were back, he would have left it with "I'm done talking about them." [hairGel] has outright lied to the media on multiple occasions in the past few years and the :stunned: fans brush it off as "Stupid media don't need to know the truth anyways go Gundy." Then afterward when the truth is discovered and Gundy was either not telling it or he outright lied, you wonder if he was too dumb to know the truth, or is just kind of oblivious to what's going on around him, or what.

The biggest example of this was the offensive coordinator thing. [hairGel] was adamant that he was still in control of the offense and there was no plans of adding a Dana Holgorsen to his staff. Less than a week later, a Dana Holgorsen was added to his staff. Derp.

Might have to work extra hard to re-gain his favor but it sounds like it's a done deal to me.

I read Bob's excerpt... case closed. Look elsewhere boys... there's a process and it sounds like Stoops is done with you two. Doghouse... move on.

He was being pestered by the whities though, Haywood's reason are a lot more sellfish probably...

Bob seems to kind of be a stickler for setting precedents, that he wants to treat situations the same every time, regardless of the athlete.

Recall when Dusty came back after a year of counseling, hard work and good grades that we were immediately faced with another situation of players getting kicked off the team after Dusty was allowed back in. Immediately, reporters asked Bob what the road would be for certain players (yes, referring to Rhett and JD) for possibly returning. Bob shot it down immediately, saying they were NOT coming back.

Then, think about this season when media (and virtually every Sooner fan) pestered Bob about giving Dom Whaley a scholarship because he was sooooo awesome. Bob was adamant that he would follow past protocol in issuing scholarships to walk-ons.

So, what I think we see in this situation is Bob sticking to past protocol, past precedent, you name it, he's doing things the way he's done them before because he wants consistency and wants to keep control of his tight ship.

It may have something to do with if any bridges were burned along the way.

One could reasonably say that Rhett and JD provided the vehicle of their departure which Coach Stoops took advantage of to get those guys gone. Rhett constantly busted at the Hornets games for underage drinking etc.

Hard to tell since none of us were in the room at the time.

I thought his comments as repeated by Trotter were pretty clear - none of them are allowed back on the team. Back in the day when Billy got homesick, he was back within less than two days, didn't have any other issues, and didn't miss a game IIRC. Haywood's situation appears to have other baggage, maybe grades or practice issues.

His name still isn't back on the official roster so I think Stoops meant it when he said he has no time for players who quit and now want back on team.
