View Full Version : Costs

Travis Henry's blog on travel time and costs to attend games with WVU, Louisville, BYU and South Florida make me laugh hard at all the baloney about how our fans want to drive to away games or that it takes too long to go to LA. I travel LA to Norman about 4 times a year for games. It costs me less and takes less time than the ones Mr. Henry noted. Just think of the great opportunity to fly to Morgantown for a night game when its cold and wet there. Or fly to Salt Lake City then drive for an hour in the snow to watch a game in the snow in Provo. Then there's the 6 hours (each way) that it takes to get to Tampa. When it comes to Morgantown and Provo, bet the hotel rooms aren't cheap on football weekends.

But that's so much better for our fans than playing UCLA or USC, Stanford, Cal, or Washington that are just miles from the coast, easy to get to and have plenty of hotel rooms so rates don't skyrocket on football weekends. Not much chance of snow in these locations, lots of air traffic so fares on ridiculous, and plenty to do if you want to make a long weekend out of the trip.

So, enjoy the admission of WVU to the league. Call Joe C. to reserve your ticket to the first away game there and book your flight and hotel as soon as you know the date so as to keep the cost down. Make sure it's non-refundable too. Meanwhile, I'll bask in the sunshine, enjoy a cold one and watch it on my tv while I think of how you must be enjoying yourselves. Or perhaps you'll be wondering why Boren and Joe C. did this to you.

hey - don't assume we're all happy with the current state of affairs re: the conference

The PAC12 wouldve been light years better than this crap we're stuck with for the nect several years..

I don't think that one road game, every other year, in Morgantown is that big a deal. And if the conference goes to 12, who knows if we'll even play them that often.

I'm still pissed that we have back to back trips to Stillwater.

yeah, Morgantown or Provo might be interesting once...

trips out West every year for Pac12 games would be awesome

Seattle, Portland/Eugene and LA were all amazing trips in the last few years.

The SEC people talk about how bad WVU fans are, but in my one experience (and it was a bad one, the Fiesta Bowl), I didn't see/hear any of that. Now LSU, that's a different story.

The only negative experience I had at the 2008 Fiesta Bowl (other than the game itself) was one WVU fan who yelled at me afterwards, "And y'all are paying how much to that coach of y'our'n?"

That's actually a pretty good one. I had far more moron encounters when we played Boise in the Fiesta bowl.

Oh, the Boise fans were way worse than the WVU folks. There were three gangbanger types sitting in our row, who, after a drunken first half and obnoxious behavior, nearly started a fight at halftime and security threw their behinds out. My son christened the school 'Bozo State' and 'dressed in clown colors of orange and blue' and that's been my name for them ever since.

You can keep your 12 PAC hacky sac conference. We have a conference of our own.

Thanks for taking Colorado off our hands, though.

at least west virginia has a wrestling team. With Nebraska gone and Missouri half way out the door, we need wrestling schools in the Big 12.

They were fine at the pregame tailgate that was set up outside the stadium, but in the second half, it was a different story. We had maybe 3 BSU fans in our section, and they were talking **** nonstop. They were finally escorted out of the section by two cops. Walking to my car after the game, we ran into some pretty bad students (drunk) yelling profanities (I had my sons, who were 7 & 11 at the time). I know fans get drunk and celebrate, but it was bad (not LSU bad, but bad).

We ended up waiting by our car for an hour and a half afterward (because of traffic), and there was an elderly couple from Boise right next to us. They were great people and very respectful of OU. Still keep in contact with them.

Some of you guys are crazy if you think we're put into a bad position with West Virginia and TCU because I'm freaking stoked......

We'll now have OU, Okie State, Texas, Tech, K-State, West Virginia, and TCU competing in football year in and year out.........The Big 12 is going to be super tough. Night road games in Morgantown will be tough for anyone, including OU. With the way the conferrence is looking and with how Tubberville and Snyder have turned those programs into respectable programs and rightfully so, the Big 12 is on the verge of becoming the power house of CFB again.
I'm totally happy with the outcome of all of this and I'm happy that we were blessed with Chuck Neinas, otherwise Beebe wouldn't have done crap and we would be in a pretty bad position right now, probably even without TCU.

Football and basketball wise, this conference will be tough from here on out. The Pac-12 is looking really weak with Utah and Colorado, and I'm glad we're not part of that mess. We don't need to be in a conference that's based out of the west coast, period. And I don't care about how many TV markets we gain or lose neither, because ultimately, when I watch college football, I could care less if team A has the better TV market than team B because if TV markets dictated college football, Tulane would be the sh#t.

The only team I hated seeing leave was Nebraska. But now, screw them and I hope Wisconsin owns them for years to come. I'll take West Virginia and TCU over Missouri and Texas A&M anyday, hands down. An upgrade in all around sports if you ask me. West Virginia brings tough football and basketball to the conference, and TCU brings tough baseball. University rankings don't mean crap to me, because who are we to determine how well a University is based upon their ranking, no University level school is easy, I don't care what anyone says......

Probably find a hotel room and a flight in to Pittsburgh easy enough. It's only like 80 miles from Morgantown.

Agree with everything you posted. Wouldn't it be funny if the Big XII won the next half dozen national championships in football? Truth is, it's all cyclical, and the SEC has had a nice run, the pendulum will swing eventually, and I like the way the new Big XII is shaping up.

Yeah, but you're an anomaly. And, somehow connected to the success of the program. Not sure how yet, but your attendance record brings us good mojo.

Why all of you will travel to West Virginia:

The Big 12 has no rules encouraging or prohibiting it at campus stadiums, but West Virginia decided to allow beer sales at its stadium this year. The details of whether or not it will continue haven't been ironed out yet.
WVU = BEER :D

YES! I go camping at least once a summer in Monongahela National Forest. GREAT salamander area - HELLBENDERS!

I keep wanting OU to play Maryland, UVA or Va Tech so I can actually go to a game. So... I'll TOTALLY go to a game at WVU, but I understand I'm a touch closer than most of ya'll... :encouragement:
