I don't watch much NFL and I thought it was a little much for every sports talking head to make fun of him for 0 NFL scouts showing up at his workouts. When I heard that I too thought it was kinda funny, but also really sad because he probably thought a TON of scouts would show up...Just kinda shows you where the guys head is. Sad all around....

T.O. assistant described pill overdose as suicide attempt in 911 call

LOS ANGELES -- Terrell Owens' assistant told a 911 operator that the former NFL wide receiver had overdosed on painkillers in what she believed was a suicide attempt, TMZ reported Thursday.

The incident occurred Oct. 6 when Owens' female assistant reported that his breathing was shallow and he was barely awake after taking prescription painkillers, according to audio of the 911 call posted by TMZ.

The dispatcher later asked, "Was this a suicide attempt?" -- and she responded, "Yes, I believe so."

At first, the woman said Owens had taken four pills, but later said she was not sure of the exact amount.

The woman said the 37-year-old, whom she described as her "boss," was "talking to his girlfriend, ex-girlfriend ... [I] don't really know what you wanna call it."

TMZ reported at the time that Owens had been rushed to a Los Angeles hospital and treated for a possible pill overdose. Owens and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have not commented on the incident.

In Sept. 2006, his first season with the Dallas Cowboys, Owens was hospitalized for overdosing on painkillers, though he denied it was a suicide attempt. He instead maintained he had a bad reaction to the medication.

The news comes two days after Owens held a televised workout in California, hoping to convince an NFL team to sign him after suffering an offseason knee injury. However, no team sent a scout to watch the workout and none have expressed interest to this point in signing the six-time Pro Bowler.

Owens has played for five teams in 15 seasons. He amassed 983 yards and nine touchdowns for the Cincinnati Bengals last season, moving into second on the all-time receiving yards list behind Jerry Rice at 15,934.

Didn't this happen once before, and he dismissed it as a misunderstanding?

If true, then it's sad.

edit: i obviously didn't read the article. apparently it happened after her signed with Dallas. Very sad indeed if true. And very vicious if untrue.

I knew it sounded familiar:

Here's the story: Click on me! (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2604395)

Of course I could have just read the post a little more thorough, and I would have had my answer. Doh!

The simple fact is that he has been a ****** bag. He rode his wave as long and as hard as he could. Offending anyone and everyone that he pleased without regard for the future. Well, now its the future and nobody gives a crap about his has-been athletic ability. I wouldn't want him to take his life. I'd rather see him waller in self pity and self/world loathing that no one cares for him to the point that he appologizes for his stupidness and finds a way to actually contribute to humanity. YMMV

Sounds kind of like Emperor's New Groove, doesn't it?

So TO turned into a llama, now needs to find a peasant voiced by John Goodman and then return to being emperor with a new appreciation on life... and others :)

Someone needs to tell TO he has tons to live for even if he doesn't have football. If they'll put TO's predecessor to WR d00shiness Keyshawn on Monday Night Football, someone will give TO a commentator job.

I hear there is a doctor in L.A. that specializes in pain meds, and has a client opening, . . . . . just sayin'. ;)

Having lived near the Bay Area during Owen's tenure in San Francisco, and listening to the local media guys talk about him, it is my belief that he has always been mentally off - something is not right... perhaps a congenital disorder.
