If I had to guess... and since you live in Oklahoma like me it would be a very good guess... it was not you specifically, but the entire state that will suffer some pretty big premium increases after all of the natural disasters we've had to deal with lately.

Those tornadoes, high winds, floods, wildfires and droughts have resulted in numerous insurance claims statewide. I think the insurance companies have lost a lot of money in the past few years.

Sure, they probably made money off us chumps for years, but now that we're filing our claims, they need to make up for lost years... all at once. D'oh!

Well, I called my agent and he's looking into it. I hope there was a mistake. Over 200 percent increase is crazy.

Oklahoma is one of the highest states on the cost of home insurance in the country. Some major insurers in this state have taken draconian rate increases, somewhere in the neighborhood of 50% in the past 2 years. And these have been going up dramatically for years. If many insurers had their way they wouldn't write home insurance in OK...they really just want the auto insurance and life insurance.

Shop around. There are many national carriers represented by independent agents that are often significantly cheaper than the major insurers in this state. You might be surprised at the difference in premium.

Strange. We have some pretty major tort reform going into place about three days from now. I thought they said that'd lower insurance premiums?

What company are you insuring with, seriously?

I had better check with mine, as I have it linked to my car insurance as well.

200% is brutal.

It was / Is allstate. That may change. The reason the said my policy when up was because

the policy is an old one and they changed the zoning for that policy. That being I live more then 5 miles from a firestation.

They do have 2 more policies i could sign up for,
#1 is $1600, but will not cover the roof, because it is over 10 years old. but will pay up to $171,000. as replacement cost.
#2 is $2250, will cover the roof, but will only pay $131,000 replacement cost.

I am need to go back and see how #2 will prorate a roof over 10 years.

Also, I think I need to get a roofer out and have it inspected and replaced, Then find a new insurance company.

I've lived in the same house for almost 18 years and never made a single claim until this last February when the pipes burst and my house flooded.
I just got a letter last week telling me my rates were gonna go up but I just assumed it was because of my one and only claim in 18 friggin years.

Can I put in a plug for my friends with AAA? Not only is it great insurance, but you also get roadside assistance. AND if you're in a wreck and get sued, there's a pretty good chance I'll be your attorney!
