OU Board of Regents will meet Wednesday

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents plans this week to take action on the early stages of expanding student housing and L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park.

The board is scheduled to meet 3 p.m. Wednesday at Cameron University’s McMahon Centennial Complex in Lawton.

According to the agenda released Monday, OU regents are expected to hire an architectural firm to analyze OU’s student housing facilities and possibly its student dining halls. The firm then will develop designs, identify potential sites and estimate costs for improving and expanding student housing to meet future demand.

Regarding a student housing project that’s underway, the 380-bed dormitory being constructed at Lindsey Street and Jenkins Avenue will be named Headington Hall, pending board approval on Wednesday. OU graduate Tim Headington donated $10 million toward the $75 million project that will house 49 percent student-athletes and 51 percent non-athlete students. It’s scheduled to open in 2013.

The board also plans to award a construction contract of $695,900 to Manhattan Construction Company of Oklahoma City for phase one of the L. Dale Mitchell Baseball Park Expansion project. The first phase of the $4 million project will include backstop netting, new lower bowl seating, dugout improvements, warning track upgrades, turf upgrades and painting the upper concourse canopy.

This 1st phase will only be around 1/6th of the total expansion budget. Good things happening!

Hope this doesn't spell the end of The Berm.

Hope this doesn't spell the end of The Berm.

I don't think it ends the outfield berm, but it does for sure end the infield berm, and rightfully so.
