'97 had a nice OOC scheduling. Probably trying to buckle up for a run at the MNC. :)

yep those teams were not that great. but at least they never lost a game in which they were 30 point favorites at home.

I know it's been worse at times in the past, but that still doesn't forgive any recent failures.

We still lost Saturday right? Or are we gonna be cut some slack because after all we could still have John Blake?

Hard to compare really. I knew we sucked , so i didn't expect much. We didn't win a home game at all in 96 however we still beat stoolwater and texass. Still could have been worse!

Curly...you are absolutely correct...not tying to forgive anything. I just want to put it into perspective...it can always be worse

You be sure and let us know the next time a terrible and irrelevant football team is a 30-point favorite.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think losing should be used to justify, rectify more losing. Logically, the premise of the thread makes no sense, especially when considering the details of this loss, and the hopes we all had for this season.

I remember 96 and 97 all too well. In 96, I was at that San Diego St game. Marshall Faulk totally embarrassed us that day. I'm so glad we are not re-living those years. Hopefully those are buried and long gone.

It is easy to forget those days, who wants to remember them?

Boomer Sooner and let's go beat the kitties in the little apple!

I really hate the yearly regurgitation of the Blake years after a loss. Could you imagine Coach Stoop's using Blake's failures to excuse his losses? "We lost to Texas Tech but things are a hell of a lot better than they were 15 years ago."

Can you really justify a loss to a mediocre Texas Tech team to what happened in 1997? Blake beat Tech in 97 and 98. Does that make him a better coach than Stoop's?

Lol, Tampa. When folks are on a rampage, they'll dress up your words into whatever straw man they need to use as a punching bag.

What I remember about the Blake years is that expectations were so very low. One game into the season, and we're out of the running for the NC. By week 4, the conference championship was out of reach, and by week 7, there wouldn't be a bowl game, either.

On the other hand, my lawn looked great, and my car was ALWAYS clean and waxed!

I was present for all of those home losses. Gag. The only positives were plenty of seating space and the people watching. During one of those collossal failures I watched an old lady eat popcorn by dipping her head into the bucket because she was wearing gloves.

New to the forum, but not OU football. I remember 1954 forward.Yes there were bumps in the road. Yes, I was around when ND broke our 47 game winning streak. I actually cryed after that game. I was 14 yrs. old. I've been around long enough to know that Alabama, Auburn, and LSU will not be dominent every year. I still cry a little bit when we lose, but I never give up on them.
