I guess they had a version that had a mirror-like finish, but decided to add a textured look because they were worried that the NCAA wouldn't allow them to be used.

They had really sh!tty helmet paint these past few years. It would look bad when it got chipped. I wonder if bass boat paint solves this :P

Apparently, they've taken the duties of painting the helmets out of the hands of the student managers. This is some kind of paint process that supposedly makes for a tougher finish on the helmets. They've outsourced the painting to a company in Oregon (the same company that does Texas Tech bass-tacular black helmets).

I'm sure the conversation (for the photograph) went something like: "Hey, we need to take a pic of the new helmet, go grab the worst helmet you can find so that the new one looks super spectacular next to it!".

Don't say the duckies either. All those goofy changes are just about Knight trying to move merchandise.

They really knew how to paint a drum kit back in the day.

Also, if you run across an old Les Paul custom with gold metallic paint, they have a very unique sound.

Apparently, they have a uniform based on the throwback they wore against Michigan that they are also unveiling Saturday. Hooray!
