View Full Version : OSU horrid defense...

I think most of us here will agree that defense wins championships and big games. This is one of the reasons the SEC for the most part has fared well in national title games. Most didn't have high powered offenses, but had unreal smash mouth physical defenses.

We have all seen high powered offenses fail in physical games. Plain and simple, you need a solid defense to get to the big dance. OSU doesn't have this. In fact, their defense is awful. This team has pretender written all over it. That is all.

I listen to the college sports channel on XM. Someone called in yesterday and said OSU's defense is ranked so low, because they put up a lot of points and start substituting in third stringers earlier. The way he made it sound, they were putting them in like in the first quarter.

Even if that was the case, which it is not, giving up close to 30 points per game means a defense sucks regardless of the scenario.

They are ranked 100 out of 120 D1 (I refuse to use that FBS nonsense, sorry) teams.

And their schedule has not exactly been packed with offensive superpowers.

I think mizzou scores plenty, but so do the pokes.

If it were a night game I'd lock the tiggers, but at 11AM the game is a toss up in my mind.

Because they are not playing us, Mizzou will play like crap and turn the ball over like crazy.

OSU's defense would be worse if they didn't force so many turnovers. But they have forced a lot of turnovers, which is what a good defense is supposed to do. It's the yards and points surrendered that should concern Poke fans.

Confession: We have to win or our two resident Pokes, if they survive here till the game, will have custody of my avatar, signature and a vBookie event.

Save me Sooners! :stunned:

Even with all those turnovers they still give up a ton of points. Heh.

What about Auburn? They won the national championship team and had a very average defense.

Well Hell, I would be okay with OU giving up 600 yards a game, if the defense made a crap load of turnovers and held the opposition to less points than we can score!

I think their poor defense showed against texas last week. While texas was never too close, and it felt like OSU would pull away at any point, a very mediocre texas offense kept them in the game. This weekend will be interesting, because Mizzou can generate offense. I don't think the Pokes lose, but it'll be closer than they like.

Yes, but I think OSU needs to be concerned because those turnovers aren't going to flow so freely in every game. If their D doesn't resolve its issues, it is going to lose them a game.

And they can make excuses about playing 3 quarters or whatever, but they'll be playing 4 against OU, and now we know they're practicing 4 1/2 hours per week. Hard to think that they won't get winded out there at some point.

Defense no longer wins championships, but it doesn't hurt to have one with a pulse. Our last two trips to Stillwater OSU has scored 41 in both games...and lost by an average of 13.5 points.

Check again how some of those points were scored.

Total Defense as of Right Effing now....

Rank Team Games Played # of plays

22 Oklahoma 6 414
100 Oklahoma St 6 475

If Defense doesn't mean anything....I wonder why they keep these Stats? LMAO

Agreed...but they count as points regardless. I feel really good that our defense is going to be a lot better than those last two trips which means I see OSU peaking at about 27. If we can't get in the 30's on that swiss cheese defense, I'll be happy to cheer for OSU to win the national title.

That must be why they don't have to practice much. They only play about half a game.

Makes sense I guess...

How many of you here have no idea what XC stands for? Raise your hands!

I rest my case.

And my hand is not raised, I participated in it in high school.

We're going for a 3-peat in it. BTW, OU is/was ranked number 3 in the nation.

Hmmm.... I'm sending you and NYCPoke a PM. I just had an idea for even more humiliation when you lose to us in December...
