The heater just wont come on. I'm not sure if there is just a pilot light out or what. And even if there was I wouldnt know where to find it...

Anyone got any suggestions of good people to come take a look at it?

Probably any one of your neighbors could look and see if your pilot light was out. It's easy to re-light if that's all it is.

Most of my neighbors are all students or PWT and I dont want them to know what I have in my house.

Where is it? We dont have a proper furnace that I know of... We just have the big unit outside, which I think is just AC.

Check the attic or garage.

The water heater is in the garage and its pilot is lit.

It wont come on if theres No Heat. Unless you turn it to FAN , Then if it wont come on , check yer Breaker box.

Any HVAC person can come look at it for you. They usually charge about $75.

When you set the fan to "on", can you hear where the fan is located? Unless you have a heat pump, the heater should be there.
Where do you change your filters? (I'm going to regret asking that, aren't I? :))

Doc will throw in a free health and wellness check when he comes to change your filters.

So the heater is gas. But it is apparently started with an electric lighter or something. Is that a heat pump? I really have no ****ing clue. Anyway the ONG person said I probably need a service person to come and look at it.

At least thats what the ONG people said. The air filters that I change are in the floor.

And what the **** is HVAC? Its obvious I know jack about this so I dont know abbreviations.

Not a heat pump..Yeah, anything gas is automatic..

So, you turn it on...Does the inside motor start?

No idea.

If i just set the fan to "ON" it will blow air. If I set it to "AUTO" and "COOL" and set the thermostat below the current temperature it will cold blow air. If I set it to "AUTO" and "HEAT" it wont blow any air even if the thermostat is set above the current temperature.

Yep. But the wife was checking it out. Better to get it fixed now than when it is hella cold

My gas valve was messed up. Hopefully it is under warranty.

If you do NOT seem to have a pilot light, but it is a gas furnace:

The newer gas furnaces have an electric ignition. On the earliest models, when activated by the thermostat, a little gas will flow, then you will here a clicking sound come from the electric ignition. Once that lights, the furnace fires up. These were horrible, and replaced later with an electric coil that quickly heats up, glowing red hot, and lights the gas. So, most likely that electric ignition has gone out, and you'll have to have a pro replace it. Can't remember the cost for the part, probably in the hundred dollar range.

Much less reliable than the old pilot light. Those were forced out for safety purposes. Gas accumulating, gasoline fumes in garage, etc could be ignited by them.
