So, I've never actually been to a game in Stilly. I'll be attending the Baylor game, obviously, which is their homecoming. I'll be sitting in the student section.

How are the games there from a visitor's POV? Are they generally a harmless group of simpletons?

SoonerBacker

I've only been there for OU games and once for an a&m game. Their fans (especially the students) can get pretty hostile. I'm sure they treat OU fans worse than most, but my experiences there have been so bad that I will NEVER go back for another game.

I would imagine that any opinion here will not represent what you're going to see. OSU saves all their hate for OU.

The worst opposing fan base in the conference hands down. Their step child, wannabe mentality is so ingrained in every thing they do.

I've had more than one current and former player tell me that it's the worst as well.

OK, i'm telling you all my darkest secret. I took some graduate classes at OSU, I wanted to go to vet school. during the 2000 season, I had season tickets to OU & OSU. a couple times I got to see both games in one day. I had student season tickets at OSU so I was in the student section with my OU gear on for those games but I was somewhat protected since I went with a group of friends. They were never too hateful to me outside of the OU/OSU game and we beat them that year so they shut up pretty fast. it was kinda sad...back then football season tickets were included in their "all sports pass" for like $40/year. the only sport that wasn't included was basketball. But you could go see football, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, wrestling, whatever.

I think you'll be safe if you wear Baylor stuff and not OU stuff... so long as Baylor doesn't hand OSU its first loss of the season. If they lose to Texas first, they shock might be over, but you might be in for it if RG3 heismans all over them in Stilly.

So as someone suggested, don't make your vehicle look like a Baylor one, just in case RG3 has a career day on the Pokes. If that were to happen, you might be safer wearing an OU sweatshirt over your Baylor t-shirt on your way out :D

The thing I have found, is if you act like a prick, you get treated like a prick. I have been to many games there, and have never been treated badly. Obviously, I don't strut around and talk smack to everyone, just quietly wear my gear and smile. They know who is best. I have seen some folks get the business, but in all honesty they had it coming. Be cordial, after all you are in there house, and you will most likely have a good time.

maybe it has changed a bit with their recent success. Games I have attended there have been generally boring. Fans stand and cheer very loud when team comes on the field. They stand and roar at opening kickoff. Then they sit down. If they manage to get a 1st down, they stand and say first down and 10 while they point like a ref. Then they sit back down. Kids in front row beat the snot out of a pad which is on the wall between seats and field. Gives you a headache by halftime. You'll be OK inside the stadium and walking around with your Baylor gear. Maybe take a smart remark or 2 but generally in a fun sort of way. But take any Baylor flags off your vehicle.

Well, let's see...since the formation of the Big 12, Baylor is 1-14 versus Oklahoma State. Slightly better than the 0-15 record against us.

Have no fear. The Oklahoma State fans will treat you no differently than they would your garden variety Louisiana-Lafayette fan.

I remember that the first time Baylor beat Poke was the first time in the Big 12 (i think) that they were weren't last in the Big 12 South. Poke was, and that was Gundy's first year, if I recall correctly.

Hard to recall, isn't it, Baylor wins in the Big 12. I think he'll be fine in Stoolwater. Oklahoma State hasn't had any problems beating Baylor's *** with or without Robert Griffin III. They're riding a five game losing streak against the Pokes now. The Poke fans will rolll out welcome mats for these people.

I was in the middle of the student section in 2006 and didn't seem to have a problem with the osu fans. It was me and one OU fan a row or two behind me in a sea of orange. That was a pretty close finish if I'm remembering correctly.

Don't be in the band. In '98 when they beat us they rammed the goal posts into the band before trying to drop it over the side of the stadium on their own fans. The announcer had to come over the PA system and remind them that people would die if they did that. Then in '04 their child-molester-looking freak of a mascot shot his rifle in the face of some flutes and nearly deafened them.

Oklahoma State fans are fine. Pretty harmless. The problems are Tech and Texas. Texas, I fully understand: they think they are superior to us, yet have watched us pile up win after win and championship after championship since 1970 when the thing was finally fully integrated, face-masked were used, and television became a player.

Texas, for all of their money, can't buy the type of success we've had over the past 40+ seasons, and it grates on them.

Tech is harder to figure. They are, at best, just a few steps away from Baylor. Can't figure out why their fans get so riled up. Must be the dust out on the plains sticking the gears of the brains.

Come and you'll be fine. It'll be a fun game. Walk through the tailgates and converse with people and you will get all the free food you want. As one other poster pointed out as long as you're not a total dick, then you will be treated with respect and welcomed in.

These internet stories make for great laughs, and to brew the hate of certain schools even more, but I would venture to say that 99.9999% are made up.

With that said, you will be fine. Hopefully you have a great time up here (with a loss of course ;) ), and if you're staying overnight come out to the Strip and have free drinks bought for you.

I can confirm NP's account of 2004. A shotgun, even one loaded with blanks, is not something you should fire at anyone in close range.

In 2002, they tore down both goal posts (the security made very minimal effort to stop em) and fortunately the OSU band stood in front of the OSU fans to prevent them from getting too close to us, lest they try to toss the goal posts on us as they reportedly tried to a few years back.

Thank goodness you all lost in 2004. The students were lined up on those damn mats to charge at us again.

I was last there when Terry Miller played, which would have been 1974 I think. Anyway, it was all good for the most part. The worst fans I've ever encountered...Aggie.

I wouldn't think OSU fans would be too bad, but they're typically fairly obnoxious when they come to Waco. I always thought Nebraska fans were rather "condescending" as well. There's a fine line between being classy and being condescending when you tell us we have a "Great team" just after you blew our asses out and we go ZIP in the conference.

I've never had a problem with OU fans at Baylor. Generally they tell us they had a nice time, etc. while avoiding saying anything about our team itself. I've never had a problem with OU @ Norman except one year when I sat behind two obnoxious students yelling "GAYLOR!" all game. But there are always a few *******s...

Kansas State and Tech fans are what they are...

Ive only been inside Boone Pickens Stadium for a football game once (High School State Title in 01, my brother was playing). But I go to Stillwater all the time wearing OU stuff. A lot of people will joke with you and talk a little, but ive really never met any super arrogant OSU jerks that ive read about on here. And im including frat guys too. Most of their fans/students like to drink (they are really good at it too) and have a good time because other than the Dragon Layer or whatever its called, not a lot to do in Stilly. Other than being called a "Gooner" occasionally, no one really is very mean. Besides, being called a Gooner shouldnt bother me considering im a Bron-cho.

Not made up at all. While I have never had anything more than insults directed at me personally, I have seen SEVERAL cars keyed, and one year even saw a car with OU decore that had all four tires sliced. They didn't just let the air out of the tires, they sliced them. Perhaps this is just an example of every school having a few "bad apples," but it was enough to make me foget about EVER making another trip to the campus in a vehicle that had SOONER decore of ANY kind on it. I'd say that the adivce not to have any Baylor decals, etc is sound.

Each team has "bad apples" per se, but tire slashing, not just an isolated incident, but everyone has an incident of someone's tires being slashed and cars keyed. I've never seen this happen, but I've only been going to Bedlam games since 2002.

David, my high school was the Bronchos. Never understood why they couldn't spell it correctly.

And the same amount of OSU fans have had their cars keyed at Norman, etc etc...you go to their board, it's the same thing...The only place I refuse to go (back) to is Manhattan..I'm sure not all the fanbase is bad, but needing a police escort out was something I've never experienced elsewhere

Oh yes, I'm not trying to say that OSU fans are worse than others. I could probably run down the big ol' list of Big 12 schools and have a story about each.

I'd just prefer OU continue winning. That seems to keep the rowdies at bay. Winning can be empowering for some of them to scribble the final score into your car's paint or windows :(

Went to Bedlam there in 2004. Walking around outside the stadium, it wasn't all that bad. Some smartarse comments, some of them crude, all of them dumb, but nothing out of the ordinary for a road trip. Inside the stadium, it was a different story. On Adrian Peterson's first carry, some dude behind us is absolutely screaming "BREAK HIS LEG! BREAK HIS LEG! BREAK HIS LEG!" Later, when OSU blocks an OU punt, the guy in front of us that was wearing jorts and an OSU baseball jersey (no exaggeration) turns around, and while flipping us the double bird, yells "F*CK YOU! F*CK YOU! F*CK YOU!" This was all completely unprovoked. Again, maybe it was "just a couple of bad apples", but it was enough to make me decide that I should just watch it from my couch from now on. Let me be clear that my contention is not necessarily that OSU has abnormally bad fans. My contention is that as an OU fan attending the OU-OSU game in Stillwater I have deemed it to be not worth the aggravation. If you're a Baylor fan or a fan of some other innocuous conference team that holds no sort of rivalry with Oklahoma State, it may be a delightful road trip. Who knows. I can only speak from my own personal experiences and the conclusions I have drawn from them.
