View Full Version : Is there an orthopedist in the house?

I have wrecked my right knee. Don't know how bad, but bad. I was clearing some brush and a small tree hung up in another one. I was pulling it - no too hard, either - and it gave way. I fell backwards and to my right. My right foot didn't move. Twist, pop, agonizing pain, and no stability in the knee. Can't support weight at all. No lateral stability. I'm thinking at least LCL and probably a cruciate as well. The pop and pain are on the outside of the right knee. That's LCL, right?

Not an ortho, but I have dealt w/ many ACL injuries during my coaching career. The dreaded "pop" usually indicated an ACL tear.

Good luck.

Don't ask the dildos on this board, go to a ****ing doctor for crissakes. If my knee goes "pop" the last thing I'm gonna do is ask a bunch of beer-sodden ****tards "what do y'all think?"

Seriously, go get it taken care of. It ain't gonna get any better, even if you do rub dirt on it.

I'm not an orthopedist, but in my career of giving false advice, I'd say you suffered a small heart attack. Take an asprin and administer CPR to yourself. You should feel good as new in a month.

And, like Dean said...go to the doctor. Nobody here's gonna tell you anything other than "sounds bad". Mostly because we're all morons.

Go to a doctor right now. I can't tell you what happened, but it sounds like what I experienced when I popped my ACL.
good luck to you. I waited three days to get to a doctor and the damn thing is still not stable six years on.

See, even the real doc on here doesn't give advice. Asking for medical advice on this board is like asking a vegan how the Pizza Hut Meat Lovers pizza is.

Pending MRI...Doc said I can pretty much bank a ruptured ACL. Didn't even have to drawer it to tell. X-ray and a little back and forth movement told him al lhe needed to know.

Surgery in 3-4 weeks, then 8-10 weeks on crutches, then 6-12 months of PT/rehab.

This is true suckitude.

So, you're just throwing out my initial diagnosis of a small heart attack?! And you call yourself a doctor....pffft!

My knee is ****ed up, but it never popped. Can't climb a ladder on it, and every time I get up into the tractor it hurts like a bitch. Also, trying to squat down is a killer. Someone please diagnose my **** so I can save a couple bucks.

Ha! The doctor is in beeyotches. I was spot on. The dreaded pop is damn near a guaranteed ACL tear. Rehab like a mother ****er and you will be stronger than before. Neglect rehab and it will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Does your surgeon use a hamstring or pre-patellar tendon for the graft?

Not sure. The guy I saw today isn't the one that will do the surgery. I have a pre-op consult with the surgeon a week from Friday. I do know that he's the guy doing the ACL on Vols WR Justin Hunter. I'm betting patellar.

Many docs use cadaver tendons now. It's expedites the healing process.

They're also prone to shredding apart. Pre-patellar is the best.

One more thing.......

Orthopedic Surgery is alot like carpentry. Saw chisel, drill, screw. It's just the frame is bones instead of wood.

Some surgeons do 2-3 ACL reconstructions a year. Some do 2-3 reconstructions per week.

Would you rather have a rough-in framer or a cabinetmaker?

Ask your doctor, "if it was your knee, who would you go to?"

I don't know about your insurance but you may have important options.

I'm 8 months into a tib/fib fracture in which they divided my patellar tendon to drill out my tibia(spiral fracture) to insert a titanium rod. My rehab went well, but the most painful part of any of it, outside of the break, was my knee.

The practice is Knoxville Orthopedic Group. They're big enough to have specialists for different body parts: an elbow guy, an ankle guy, a spinal guy, etc. The doc doing mine is one of the three knee specialists, and he does many of the UT athletes. So I know I'm in good hands. Also, he's the same dov that did my meniscus a few years ago.

Fortunately, my insurance bennies are very good.

Looks like you're in good hands. Good luck with your surgery and please keep us updated about your recovery. Maybe you'll meet a cute therapist.

Ooops ! One more little concern............ at teaching hospitals there will be residents and students learning to be surgeons. Sometimes they might assist the surgeon, sometimes they might do more of the procedure than the surgeon himself. They gotta learn sometime..... You might ask the Doc if he's doing the operation or if he's gonna have someone in training work with him.
