Bird is big and solid...But speed wise, he looks like he is running with cement shoes

lol,,, yeah one play he didnt even go after the running back. Just let him run by so the secondary could get.
I was like, damn he;s slow...lol

good news on tom.. Oh man did I almost have a heart attack when Lewis and Wort were down...That was worse then seeing bradford on the ground in the BYU game (ok, almost,,lol)

I wonder why they were looking at his knee and he was testing the knee on the sideline if it is his back? I too almost fainted when I saw them both on the ground.

Only 2 things I can think of

1. Wort has had some knee problems and they were being precautious
2. Maybe he got a stinger there and the leg wasnt working right because of it

Jaydan Bird really did look like a monster while standing around. Didn't much notice his playing, was too relaxed and distracted by that time.

Bird looked pretty stout stopping a couple of running plays - he looks bigger than Wort. But he appeared to be slow in comparison.

I agree with several of you regarding Bird's heft. He has really beefed up since he came here as a 4-star LB from Kansas. He also appeared to me to have a similar feel as Box (and Calmus) for finding and getting to the ball on interior running plays. He was involved in several tackles during his time in the game.

Regarding his speed, sometimes "slowness" is partly lack of initial quick first reaction, and in the right direction, due to lack of game snaps. I think that was at least partly the case with Bird yesterday, and that if he gets more reps, his "speed" will look somewhere better. I remember that Box looked similar when he got in at K-State in '08 (Reynolds hurt?), which was I believe the first or one of the first significant game situations for him because of his injuries.

Also, one of the plays where Bird looked "slow," Texas had managed to iso'd him on Malcolm Brown. Bird didn't look any different than any of our other backers would have looked on that play, and have looked on some plays. So...not saying he's a burner, just suggesting these factors should be considered.

Apprehension on his part has a part to do with it..Him stopping one the play and watching the ball carrier going past him was probably a little of this. Also, backing up a small. quick mlb also makes him look slow as Wort is extremely undersized but very quick with excellent closing speed.

I remember another LB who was slow. Rocky Calmus. Slower than molasses in January. Boy sure could play the angles though. Seemed like he was in on every tackle no matter where it was on the field. Bird kind of reminded me of Rocky yesterday.

When my dad had back problems (bulging disc) the pain was in his legs, over the years he had two of them bother him and the was in different locations of his leg. Could have been a similar situation with Wort and the pain showing up down in the leg.

Bruised back as per Tom and will be ready to go next week.

With KU, I would consider holding him out and making darn sure he is ready for the stretch run. We are going to need him.

Tough to liken anyone's (linebacker) speed to Wort's...Did you see him lead block out there on one of the turnovers? I think I'd really like to have escorted into the end zone with him out front! Hope his back gets better...

They seem to be fine but I think I blacked out for a minute.

When we play Kansas, I think we shouldn't play any starters. Only walk-ons except Whaley obviously ;)
