Was wondering about it, so I looked it up. Stoops vs. Brown is now the longest running coaching matchup in OU-texas history. This will be their 13th head to head matchup with Stoops leading 7-5. No other OU-texas coaching rivalry has gone on that long.

As well, noticed that if OU wins this will be Stoops 43rd win over a top 25 team, tying him with Switzer for most top 25 wins. Switzer stands 43-21-4. Stoops is 42-17. By comparison, Bud was 28-18-1 against top 25 teams. Blake and Schnelly combined for 1 top 25 win...15 years ago at my Bachelor party at as winless OU beat texas in OT!

Interesting stuff. Back in the day we had the Top 20, not the Top 25 so I suspect Barry and Bud's numbers would be slightly better if the polls carried out to 25 like they do now.

Wait a sec... you say "top 25" a lot, but wasn't it sometime during the Bud era that they expanded the poll from like 10 to 20 and then 20 to 25 eventually?

I think that's why OU has a solid lead on the record for being ranked --- because at one time, it was really hard to get ranked!

Hey look, an answer to my own question!

While the AP Poll currently lists the Top 25 teams in the nation, from 1936 to 1961 the wire service only ranked 20 teams. And from 1962 to 1967 only 10 teams were recognized. From 1968 to 1988, the AP again resumed its Top 20 before expanding to 25 teams in 1989.

Soooo... when you say top 25, do you mean teams in the AP poll, or teams that would have been top 25 had a top 25 existed? :D
