until they changed coaching staff..they do not get my support, time and any effort, i will not wear any tamu football gear that i have because they embarrass me. i am current;y selling my season tickets, parking pass etc..this team has a good year last year for 6 games other than that ...what have they done. sherm/derooter suck big time...i am so tired of this program sucking and keep going backwards. I wonder why the sec wants us, it's because we will be the patsy team in the conf. FOREVER!

This is going to be a tough march through the conference games. We are paying the penalty harder than I imagined and being exposed.


This is the only time I remember hearing booing at the good guys(I was so drunk I could barely walk up the stairs to my seat), and as much as i hate to admit it I was booing too. Giving up like that definitely triggered my first real negative thoughts about Fickell as our coach.


I look at it this way: we have a vocal, large, spoiled fan base. There's a good chance a lot of them are going to boo when we're performing as bad as we are and the coaching is obviously as bad as it has been.


Only two games, Purdue and Indiana, look to be possible wins at this point in the season given what has been shown so far.


This could have very easily been a 40 point blowout had MSU been competent on offense.


A fricking monkey could have called a better offensive than bollman did yesterday.

I've been watching Ohio State football since 1968, and today was the most pathetic offensive overall performance I can recall. The OL as a unit was a complete joke...false starts and bad snaps by [censored]ing seniors, missed assignments, just a [censored] poor effort across the board.

If you thought 2004 was bad, get ready for 2011. I fear we'll be lucky to go 6-6...I [Mark May] you not.

e will play amazing offense for 3 quarters and then all the sudden it's like Briles looks up at the scoreboard, realizes we are up by two possessions or more and says "Oh crap, we need to play conservatively and milk the game away!" Since when has that been our offensive identity? It's NOT. We are team that thrives off of our fast-paced game, and when we try to milk the game, we take ourselves out of it.


How bout when will Briles or any other BU coach in history learn that SPECIAL TEAMS MATTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear we must NEVER plan or practice anything that has to do with kick-offs, FGs, or punts. 14 yard punts, catching a kick-off while running out of bounds, blown coverage more times than we can count, the list goes on.


I'm worried Griffin is smoke and mirrors for this staff and once he is gone we are right back to 2007/2008/2009.


EVERYONE knows our D and special teams are just this side of useless half the time. Well, everyone except for maybe Briles.

In fact, it's absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. I don't care that KSU was undefeated...they were not a great team. We made stupid mistakes, turned the ball over four effing times, and began the fourth quarter playing "not to lose" instead of nailing the coffin shut. Unacceptable loss.


If we beat tamu then I'll be just fine. I want those peckerheads to leave the big 12 knowing that they were never the best team in Texas. I want to send them home with a loss that stings more than the past 2 weeks combined. I don't even want to run the score up, I want us to kick a field goal as the clock winds down to 0 and I want it on ESPN repeatedly.

edit: Not at all saying we'll have the chance to do any of those things, but I'll be completely okay with the K-State loss if we can pull one out in CStat.


We are a mediocre team with no margin for error. At the end of the season, I expect the record to reflect that.

dude, we can't stop ANYTHING. Our rush defense is horrible. Baylor and SMU both ran effectively on us. What bothers me the most is that our ends cannot do the simplest, most basic of tasks: PROTECT THE EDGE. The 28 yard run by line on the right side was just killer.

This is a terrible year and I hope we get smacked a couple more times. The only time they get jacked up to play is late in the 4th. I was sitting as close as you can to the bench and its like a mute camp out there. It pisses me off to drive up to FW for games, cheer so that I lose my voice, and get sunburnt to watch this garbage. Since I can't use names, our fastest, short receiver needs to go. He's never done anything great to warrant to props people give him and he fumbles the punt every time. Someone in the other thread suggested tweeting at the players. Please don't do that either. There is no reason to start a tweet war with a team that you claim to be a fan of. The coaches have let them know what's up. Some DB tweeting BS at them is not going to help anything, just like an email to JP.


In the student section people were throwing bottles on the field, but that was just because of the officiating I think. Also a student probably in 10th row or so made a plastic soda bottle fly on the field probably about 25 yards or so. That was actually pretty cool just to see the distance the guy got on it.


My favorite moment of the night; "The ruling on the field that the runner was down before the ball was fumbled is under review." 30 seconds later..."After further review, the ruling on the field that the ball was fumbled and then recovered by the offense is confirmed."


to all Non-believers in superstition: I had shaved every Thursday on game weekend. This week I forgot....


It might be uncalled for, but I lost any respect for Mack Brown that I may have had tonight. He was running trick plays while up by 20+ and he kept most of his starters in until their last possession. I know for a fact that he does not respect us, and he never will. Don't worry about thrashing this post, because I promise I won't be on a tirade of negativity. This is my one and only post. Just had to get it out.

NO the season isnt over. However if anyone really thinks this team of bad news bears players and coaches will get things going mid season when they haven't done it in the first five games is not thinking logically.

I'll shut up for a few weeks now...and we'll see who's got it right when all is said and done.

STILL waiting for USC to have a great football team. STILL waiting for NEXT YEAR after 30 years...

The CAL game was bad enough, pissing away this game just seals it. This team sucks and the recruits aren't going to come to a school that can't beat the worst effing team in the pac12 with a 10 point lead with 5 minutes left.


You can't lose to the worst team in the pac 12 with a 10 point lead with only 5 minutes left, you just can't. Well, unless YOU ARE THE WORST TEAM AND THAT IS WHAT CU IS. I thought this team would be at the least 3-2 and they are now 1-5 and the only game they have a chane in is ucla and that game is on the road.

It's disgusting how effing bad this program has become. What makes it worse is that they are no better than the previous regime at this point. People keep talking about Embree getting his recruits and talent in here. ​They aren't going to come with this pathetic display each week. This effing sucks.

Go Buffs, but that was awful. I wasn't even surprised at all when we sh** the bed and couldn't finish a game. Not even on the road. We sh** the bed in the first half, we sh** the bed to close out the game.... These Buffs don't know how to win. That's unfortunate because they should be 3-2 as opposed to 1-4.. Unfortunately, CU needs to get a shot in the arm somehow. The stadium was absolutely DEAD with 5 minutes to go. There were people sitting down in the student section. There was absolutely no noise whatsoever. Yes we can blame a lot of what happened on the players, but we as the fans did not help matters by sitting there with our thumbs up our a***es while Wazzu marched down the field twice. Sh**, Wazzu fans were making more noise than the rest of the CU fans on the Buffs last offensive possession. Embarrassing not only for the Buffs, but also for the Buff fans. I'm happy to see Embree pissed off in his post game interview, maybe he needs to take away the bricks again? maybe he needs to take away the emblems on the helmets? idk what he needs, but come on.... that was unbelievable... something needs to happen.... i need about 12 more beers to make tonight salvageable. and Wisconsin needs to beat the nubs by 200.

Virginia won by 1 point in OT yesterday against a 1-4 Idaho team at home.

Wilson needs to become much better with his people skills. If he is successful in the future in keeping players and assistants, he will be very successful in the win column. He is one demanding individual, any many recruits will buy into him, but he will also lose players because of how demanding he is. If Wilson is a success on the field, people will overlook his crude demeanor.

Bill Snyder is a better football coach than 99.9% of all head coaches that have ever roamed a sideline in D1 football. KU, and K-State, will probably never come close to hiring a football coach that will ever be on par with Bill Snyder.

Two weeks in a row we get to have this thread. I hate football.


While I would like to give a wholehearted '**** GD' our WR and OL both looked like 2/3rd Team.


- dumb mistakes (penalties) at the WORST POSSIBLE TIME
- running Aaron Williams out there to field punts game after game when he obviously can't catch them
- inability to find any sort of offensive identity after 5 games
- inability to identify our best RB and build a running game around him during the spring/fall/season
- having Barrett Matthews and/or Greg Smith on the field on damn near every down, effectively leaving us playing 10 on 11
- mailing it in on recruiting for two years, leaving us with not one single NFL-type player on the offensive side of the ball
- failure to anticipate OU's hurry up offense
- lack of accountability for players and coaches who can't or won't do their job properly ("lots of guys played well, we just need to tweak a few things" type comments in press conferences)

ALL of those things go back to coaching basics. Ultimate responsibility lies with Mack. Changes need to be made.


Texas has better players than OU. They were not prepared for this game, this one falls on the coaches.

I actually predicted a 65-10 loss, so the final score does make me happy. It's like being forced to watch a chick flick...have no expectations going in, and if it's not as bad as you think, you've not wasted your time.

i think the only thing that sucked was that if ZM hit more than a few of his passes, we could've kept it close(r). and if we could play 4 qtrs of tough D, score in the RZ, we could be decent.

12. I enjoyed doing a Twitter search of "Cal" and "Oregon" at halftime to see all the Twitter users say how awesome we are. I haven't touched Twitter since.

13. I was really psyched about this game, so much so that it intefered with my work all day today. That's not going to happen next week. I hate Thursday games.

14. I missed NFL Network's "A Football Life with Kurt Warner" tonight. But they are re-airing it on Friday afternoon, so I can watch it over the weekend.

If you missed last night's game, Cal was actually up 15-14 at half with LaMichael looking slightly dinged. He was later carted off in the fourth.


Our offense is much better this year. It scored about twice as many points this year vs. Whoregon as it did last year. About twice as much yardage as well. Our defense isn't as good as last year. It doesn't have the team speed necessary to counter the best/fastest players on the other team. We've seen this throughout the year so it should come as no surprise. Expect more of the same when Woods comes to town. Still think we get six wins in the regular season, which is the same prediction I've had all along.

Mental note: Save for future reference: "Whoregon"


Even Dennis Erickson has been able to somewhat turn his team around and have them playing respectfully. Tedford's used up all his assistant scapegoats to buy time and the target is solely on him. Personally, i fully gave up on him last year after a couple years of contemplation. Realistically though he isnt going to get fired or step down this year unless we totally bomb.


If he continues to post mediocre results and by mediocre I mean he is in the middle to back of this conference he will last until sagging attendance and interest (already started) forces the AD to assess the cost of the buyout vs the projected loss of revenue with him continuing as coach. Next year is critical.


Tedford is not being fired untill his contract runs out...period. The last thing the administration needs (those who work outside of athletics) is the school spending whatever large amount in Tedfords buy out and that getting out in the news.

I don't think there is ANY way that I can defend him when juxtaposed against his compensation. We are getting fleeced in that department. We would honestly have our choice of DOZENS of excellent candidates nationally for the money that we are giving Tedford. Waiting for his contract to expire is like Chinese Water Torture. The lesson to be learned here is that the AD should NEVER give another long term extension (greater than 3 years). I have no issue with pretty big money, but length certainly matters.


I'm beginning to wonder if we can win any conference games this season. Washington State is looking like a tougher game than we anticipated, and we always have a tough time with Oregon State. We sure as hell won't beat Stanfurd, Arizona State, and USC, and Utah will be a challenge for this team. That leaves UCLA standing between us and 0-9, and since the game is in Pasadena, I don't like our chances. Ugh! And many of us thought last season's 5-7 record was an aberration. Looks like repeating that record will be a real long shot.

We shut up when our team's on offense (except after big plays, but otherwise, we let king meercat call his audibles), we get insanely loud on defense, we let the refs know that they can't call anything against OU without getting some booing, and we even show up when Ball State is in town.

PS: I am not gifting you this, btw. Your continued support of vBookie makes more crazy meltdown posts like these possible. And there was tons more Cal material than I used, so I really really hope they lose tons more this season :D

This warning is due to a system that plagues Blue Raider Country this time of the year usually coinciding with a nationally televised football broadcast.

This is the bigger question and concern I have going forward. It's been 15 to 18 years since we were even relevant in football. Mackovic was a disaster, now Stoops who has apparently lost this team and their respect. This program is so important to us and yet, it seems to get swept under the rug where many fans hide willing to accept mediocrity. Well congratulations we are officially the worst team in the PAC 12 and the laughing stock of jokes on ESPN and broadcasters across the country.


Mediocrity would be an improvement at this point.


Until Z is benched/cut and Stoops is fired, count me among the "bad/fairweather fans" if you wish, I'd much rather contribute my money to winning programs like basketball and softball. I'm no longer buying what Greg B is selling.

This season and Mike Stoops' future will likely come down to two things: the Territorial Cup at ASU and how many empty seats (40,000, perhaps?) will be at Arizona Stadium for an after-Thanksgiving game against Louisiana-Lafayette.

It used to be that Arizona was unfortunate if it wasn't scheduled to play Washington State this season. Now it's more of a blessing. The two programs have traded places.

OU runs up the socre because Stoops palys starters the whole game, no matter who they are playing and or how far ahead.


I'll take class every time. For my University it's not just about wins, it's about winning the right way.


I just don't think I could force myself to be so polite and cordial with Stoops after the game. Shake his hand, say congratulations and get off the field. The way Mack smiles and good naturedly exchanges pleasantries after Stoops has yet again rubbed his face in a big steaming pile of sh*t is remarkable.


Mack is a class act and Stoops is a steaming pile of dogsh*t. They represent their respective Universities very well.

Didn't Billy Tubbs respond to a question about "running up the score" by saying that if I tell my players to quit scoring that is called points shaving, and it is illegal.

I was pleased to see many Ute fans thanking and congratulating the Sun Devil fans after the game. Several ASU fans mentioned they felt very welcome and enjoyed their visit today. I know the grace that Notre Dame fans displayed moved our fanbase and I'm proud to see it returned on Ute visitors.

I believe being on this level has sedated many fans over the belief of an NCAA persecution complex. The bitterness and jealousy is gone and now we can just enjoy the games win or lose. I like that and it brings sportsmanship back into the game.

Although there still are some who believe a Utah loss is the end of the world. I'm talking to you superfan. I appreciate your excitement for the game but when I see you spend 25 minutes giving the SLPD guy in the concourse an earful about what Utah needs to do to be successful, it's time to get a life.

One thing that struck me over at hornfans has to do with their solutions to what they are blaming their issues on - which predictably is age/experience. Post after post has this crazy misguided optimism that "in a few years' recruiting classes" that won't be a problem anymore. This is confusing....has Texas not enjoyed top 5 recruiting classes for like the past ten years? Seriously, if it weren't for all the babypoop orange everywhere, I would have thought I was reading the aggy boards. There are so many things about this reaction that bother me, but it's the following 2 that really makes my head want to explode.

1. When you consistently pull in top 5 recruiting classes, there isn't much room for improvement - especially to the extent that it would have changed today's outcome.
2. That recruiting seems to be their answer to adversity. For every 1 point someone makes about coaching adjustments, there are at least 4 ppl disagreeing and defending Mack/Harsin and 7 who think recruiting will solve everything in the future. This is the football equivalent at throwing money at a problem because you can't create your own solution.

I look around college football as well the kids today and realize Texas must evolve. I see energetic kids with Mohawk hair cuts with blonde hair. I see kids tatted up without the greatest command of the English language playing incredible football. Having guys with doctors and coaches as parents is great, but sometimes you need that beast with no table manners and not so good at chess.

We got out athleted today. Texas has the best athletes in the country along with Florida. Oklahoma gets who we don't want so there is no reason we shouldn't be faster and stronger regardless of age. We've had a top 5 class 3 or 4 years on a row. Let's stop looking at how well they do in an interview and look at how they perform on the grass/




Alright dovey, let's keep doing what we're doing and watch as times change. Flexibility to change is something only natural to survival. I don't want to only survive. I want to kill and eat.

Uh...you're not so great at that. Take King Robert III for example: Here's a kid with a truly amazing athletic ability. His parents are both career military (sgts in the army). He graduated HS a year early with honors. He graduated Baylor in 3 years with a degree in PoliSci with honors. This semester he will graduate with a masters degree in communications. He has been accepted to law school and his goal in life is not to play on Sunday but to become an attorney and better his community.

You know what Texas offered him? They didn't. Not really anyway...they recruited him as a "general athlete" and not for any particular position. You know why Texas didn't? Because Texas sucks. Texas sucks major *** and that is not going to change.

And...wtf....Vince Young wasn't exactly a Rhodes Scholar. Good God.

The offensive line is just terrible. Some have argued that they have played well. Maybe it is time to sit the seniors and start coaching up the new ones. These guys are soft and have bought into a culture of losing. Hopefully JE will have another reckoning this week.

I went full out bazonkers on a player on the sideline in 1997 at the CU NU game that showed no emotion..... The players father used to post all the time at The other site..... I went full out bat**** on him a few years later.....

I felt like I cared more than he did....


This is what I think, and just an opinion. Sorry for the grammatical errors and punctuation.

Hawkins was a scatter recruiter (that's what I am going to call it). He recruited based off of recommendations or just pure find the best/twinkle in the eye recruit. When you recruit this way you have a team mixed with physical players, finesse players, bad players, lunch pail players, dumb players, etc. You have no team identity. You have a team that is mixed. Granted, I believe you need physical and fast football players. In high school coaching I believe you coach offense and defense based off of what you have, because you have to. In college and pro's you tell everyone your identity and then recruit/draft/trade for it. Look at OKstate (pure offense spread), lsu (pure physical team), Stanford (pure physical + smart + assignment orientated), Wisconsin (same as Stanford), etc.

Embree has came out since day one and said we will be a physical team and we want to be like Stanford (offensively and defensively). Obviously we aren't a physical team. If Embree came out and said we were a spread team we still wouldn't be a spread team or good. This will take time for Embree and company to recruit the type of players they want.

I am truly surprised why people think changing a culture in football is so easy. I am as frustrated as anyone, but this coaching staff is preaching the same thing, week in, and week out.

Stanford would be a bowl team with Andrew Luck at the helm and Northern Colorado’s players. No disrespect to UNC. I actually went there for a while.

Saying this, we may have the worst physical offensive line ever. Watch our offensive line and it almost seems like they take a step back (even on power I, 2 tight ends, 1 full back, with 1 receiver). We seem to be in permanent pass/don't hurt me blocking mode. At least that’s what I see.

I understand people flipping out on every moment of CU football but I think this will take time. Especially with the complete change in culture.

Stoops seems to be the standard in terms of turning a program around and if you can't do it that fast, then you should be fired.

Last time we lost 3 straight to aggy was back in the early 90s

Tubs is 0-5 against A&M, Okie St, Whorns, and OU.

Keep trying to divert the issue but your excuses are getting more and more paper thin.

What has Tubs added to Tech? Old guy brought the high octane offense, new guy just hired an assistant who could maintain it... I mean honestly what has he brought? Two defensive coordinators that have us worse off then before they got here? That's not bringing something to the table. Raiderwalk? Okay I like that, but that's not coaching. That's marketing.


5 out of Coach Leach's last 6 years we finished the season ranked in the Top 25 and had a streak of 3 straight when Leach was fired.

During Leach's 10 year tenure, Texas Tech had the 3rd best Big 12 record with only Texas and OU having a better record. In 6 of those 10 years either Texas or OU played for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Leach is the only non-SEC and non-PAC 10 coach to go undefeated against 2 of the last 4 Super Bowl MVP's who were Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers. Leach beat Manning in 2002 in Lubbock and 2003 in Oxford, the same year that Ole Miss won the SEC West which included the defeat of Tuberville at Auburn.

I attended the Holiday Bowl victory over Cal when Sonny Cumbie was the MVP, not Aaron Rodgers.

If you don't think Leach accomplished anything, then you are CLUELESS!


This is not true if you're referring to 2007 and 2009. Two of the former TTU HC's wins over OU were when OU was without the starting qb.

Tech's wins over OU in 2007 and 2009 were when Sam Bradford was hurt. In 2007 he was out with a concussion extremely early (either OU's first (I think) or second at latest possession) after tackling a Tech defender who recovered a fumble. And 2009 he was out for most of the year, including against Tech, after he hurt his shoulder in the first game of the season against BYU.

Focus. The facts remain against Leach's record against OU qb and whether the OU was starting (usually not when OU lost, as in 2 out of 3 times), no matter how you want to sugar coat it.

....after the 1st quarter there was a relay race for tickets to next year's RRR game. The teams consisted of two sooner fans and two Texas fans, each team with one girl and one guy. Each girl lined up in the end zone and had to sprint to the 10 yard line, pick up a football and sprint to their respective partner at the 20 yard line. Once the partner had the ball they were to race to the end zone and the winner got the tickets. The UT girl races to the 10 attempts to pick up the ball and falls flat on her face giving the sooner fan team an easy victory. I knew at that point we couldn't do anything right....


geez......never heard such a group that sounded more likme aggies.

Give Wylie another year with our cast of young studs and these guys will be breaking and making tackles a lot more consistently than they were yesterday. Jaxon and Davis can't block or break a tackle for ****, Diggs and Byndom can't body up and stay with WRs like Broyles and Stills, Case's new nickname should be Smalls (maybe all of our failed QB projects can all have Sandlot names from now on), Ash and Malcolm both need even more size for their tasks, etc. Just imagine the physical beasts that Wylie will make of all our young talent.

And then think what Harsin will do with all that talent. Sure, I'm going to remain skeptical of Diaz from here on out. But not Harsin. If you can't tell that Harsin is the best ****ing addition to this football program since Colt McCoy, then you are ****ing blind. By next season, he is going to be driving OU's defense absolutely nuts, once the key players are physically and mentally strong enough for the playbook.

The answer is OU because their fans (several of whom are dear friends of mine) don't talk about it ALL YEAR LONG. If A&M wins, you can expect to hear about it in each of the following 51 weeks. This is the primary reason why OU is Texas' favorite rivalry and why our rivalry with A&M has always been annoying.

I have seen some bad UK teams in my day but it's been a long time since I saw one that can't do even the simplest of things correctly. Can't run. can't pass, can't block, can't tackle, can't catch, can't snap the ball without hitting our own motion man, can't take the proper tackling angles, fumble the ball, throw it ten feet over the receiver's head, throw it into coverage, take unnecessary sacks, and can't produce 100 yards of offense in an entire game! It's not only sad - it's disgraceful!


You can get good seats for a song in our football program.

Kentucky Football Fans enjoy Kentucky Football. Win, lose or draw. Makes no difference to most of them.

Far too many of them. FAR FAR FAR too many of them are fine with what has been happening over the course of UK Football History.

There are no expectations.

No expectations of winning at any rate.

The expectation is that a UK Football Fan will have a great tailgate with fellow football fans, UK will usually lose and no one will really care that they lost.

UK Football Fans are the lousiest fans on the planet. They expect to lose and they are fine with that.

And if you complain about losing, they get angry. As if, it's a terrible thing to wish for a winning campaign at UK Football Central.

Why?

I'm getting to where I can't stand the pitiable UK Football Fans. Especially the so called UK Football Sunshine Pumping Experts. If they know so much, why do they always talk about how much UK will improve and that UK will take it that NEXT step and get over the hump NEXT year.

UK Football is perpetually a NEXT year team. Reminds me of Tubby Smith in Basketball. Tubby was always going to make it to the Final Four NEXT year.

2. Having some of the worst beat downs to ou in the history of Texas football.

5. Costing Colt a Heisman by not running up the score.

Mack has taken beatings from OU that far surpass anything any other coach at a program like this has ever been allowed to survive in the modern era. That's been my only point in this. He has to stop ****ting the bed against ****ing OU.

I went to the game and can attest to the fact that not one player had his helmet on backwards.

There were no special teams personal fouls during the national anthem.


2010 USC game was over before you had a chance to finish (or start) eating.

2011 USC game kept it close for a long time, until you were done eating.

Texas has only had four 40+ point wins in the last four seasons. In the same time, OU has had 10. Mack Brown is a classy guy but I was he had more fire in his belly.

It's embarrassing!!!

historically, Texas has generally been the better team and has been content with merely winning.

OU, meanwhile, nurses an inferiority complex and a lot of pent up frustration. Their state resents our state. Their school resents our school. They trail in the series. Texas has regularly gotten the better of them through out the series.

When OU gets a chance to win, they make the most of it. They run up the score. They keep their starting quarterback in the game in the fourth quarter when they're up 48-10.

Other programs that I've seen find some kind of gimmick to make their place loud. As opponents, they are annoying as hell (which is kinda the point, I guess). Tceh uses the cowbells, OSU has the paddles on the wall... Maybe someone in our genius #1 ranked market machine needs to come up with some device that can be sold on the cheap at the souvenir stands... At the very least every 12 y.o. and under in attendance will HAVE to have one... At least it would be a start.

Not sure what would work that wouldn't be blatantly ripping another schools idea, but vevuvelas (sp??) comes to mind.

Any other suggestions... It's a culture issue, and you gotta start somewhere if you want to change he culture.

HOLY MOLY...We're 6-1...Let's punt away the whole season...


I tried to be optimistic. After 3 consecutive weeks of regressing, I thought Virginia was critical game to stop the bleeding. Actually we played our worst game of the season. That's 4 straight weeks now, where our execution has gotten worse.


I've been a fan through three periods of absolute incompetence in Tech football. In those days, we knew we were going to lose on the way to the stadium. 6-1 is like heaven compared to those days. eek1 If this is misery, give me more of it!!!


I think our schedule set up to give us perhaps a false sense of improvement this year. All we've done so far that the 2010 squad didn't do is beat up on an awful KU team, beat a NCSU team that gave away its best player, and lose to UVA.


We MIGHT win one more game. We are not good.


This is what I've seen for 35 years, we cannot handle success.

Nothing more telling than seeing UVa in the victory formation to have pity on us.


Don't insult the team or you'll get deleted.


Obviously we need to be in the SEC, or a southern ACC division where we play the hardest teams every year. Obviously. Things would be so much better then.


The good news? We still control our own destiny. We beat Miami, Clemson, and VT, and we're still in Charlotte in December.

Bad news? I don't see us winning any of those.


I guess we fooled them. They rushed the field because they thought we were really good and they had a monumental upset. BUT we know better.

The epic meltdown in Austin is even better this year than last.

Last season whorn fans were slow to accept that their team was going to tank so badly and watching it all unfold, particularly after the RRS was immensely satisfying.

This year, they realized early on things were bad-going-to-worse, got a shot of hope for a couple of games after Gilby was benched, only to read the writing on the wall the past couple of weeks. The icing on this cake is that on top of another season in the toliet, the burnt oranges are embroiled in another QB controversy (if you weren't reading their boards 10 years ago, there was a sizable contingent of fans known as Major cultists, who were diametrically opposed to those who favored Mack playing Chrissy).

This year's team should be ranked in the Top 25, like our football team was to start the season. The difference is, we are actually a Top 25 team in basketball..

From visiting major program boards to minor ones, there is usually a common theme in the scope of how large a meltdown you can expect:

1- Was there a coaching change recently.

Fans are not patient. They want signs of progress yesterday, wins today and championships tomorrow.

2- Is there a basketball season soon.

You would think basketball school fans don't care about football and I have lived under this assumption for years after seeing near empty football games at Duke, KU, Kentucky, etc. on television. If anything, it makes fans long a little bit more for football success, because they've seen it in one sport and want it in the one everyone is talking about.

3- Does the coach make more than they do.

This matters a great deal more than you think it would, because every FBS football head coach makes more than the average Internet fanboard poster. However, it is a major point of contention when a team loses, sucks while winning, or isn't winning as much as a rival school is/has/will.

4- Success begets meltdowns.

In almost every case, the most epic meltdowns are from teams that have had some type of success (even a winning season or a bowl game, I'm not talking OU levels of success) in the past decade. The most successful season recently, the most successful coaching, the most successful players will always be used as the measuring stick for how crappy the coach is, how crappy the season is, how crappy the starters are now.

5- No fanbase is safe from melting down.

Please keep this in mind when you are posting on the Internet. It happens to every team's fans inevitably and the end result is this thread. Giggle all you want at the whorns and every other team I've featured here, but it will happen to us, and when it does, we, too, will be questioning the coach salary, comparing our record with that of our rivals (or our perceived equals around the college football world), lamenting how much better things were a few years ago and how much more talented previous stars were than current players.

I remember when a vast majority of this board would light their torches and break out their pitchforks at the mere suggestion that the 2008 and 2009 recruiting classes were actually extremely poor by our own standards.

Laziness. Poor evaluation. Refusing to even attempt recruiting battles on players that wouldn't recruit immediately. Offering early players that would have jumped at offers two weeks before signing day. EDIT: Oh, and not recruiting to a system, just recruiting a random hodgepodge and assuming things would work out.


Texas should have gone on a dynasty run with VY and Colt and should have turned up the volume. Instead old coaches got soft and repeated "we're Texas" while the players followed suit.


The fact that a 60 year old HC is still trying to figure things out is kind of shocking in a $5,000,000 per year sort of way.


Don't forget that in the summer before the 5-7 season, that Mack gave ESPN full access to his coaches meeting, etc. Did it ever occur to Mack that the sense of entitlement came from him? I recall thinking when I saw the ESPN series about Texas that it reeked of hubris.
