View Full Version : Football philosophies that don't work...

Not coaching, because that's all subjective, but here is the argument I attempted to disprove today.

If Team A beats team B, and Team B beats team C, that does not mean that Team A is better than Team C.

Example: USF beat ND. ND beat Pitt. Pitt beat USF.

This is why common opponents don't really mean anything.

I still think rock is better than paper even though they lose to them all the time.

Texas should go to the National Championship because of head to head with oklahoma and asterisks

If a man speaks in the forest and no woman is around to hear him, is he still wrong?

Yes.

And I have always rolled my eyes at the circular argument about common opponents. It rarely works out the way folks want.

Don't talk too much **** when your conference or team is doing well. **** goes in cycles, and before too long you're going to get it shoved in your face. Man, I cannot WAIT for the SEC to have a down year.

Yes.

The difference between cockiness and swagger is that one team lost and the other won.

There are 2 keys to winning in football: Swagger and having "bulletin board material" to anger the team before the big game.

I had an uncle that would write to the Alabama coach and tell him "they needed to intercept more passes."

I think that philosophy would work.

Swagger tends to apply towards the defense. On offense it's all about timing and execution. Swagger on offense rarely equals points on the board. Dez Bryant for example has an arguable swagger to his persona. But his swagger hasn't helped him running his routes correctly.

But then again who the heck knows? The term swagger hasn't really been around all that long.

If running up the middle has failed 15 times in a row, running it up the middle again will succeed.

HAHAHA...this made me laugh! Sad how many coaches think that philosophy is sound.
