Danielle, the dirty girl of Norman High School in Norman, Oklahoma, circa 1987. When Danielle's misbehavior gets her banished to a remedial class, she is paired on a parenting project with Clarke, an innocent closet-case with no friends. Danielle is determined to get to California to find the father she's never met, and Clarke is desperate to escape being sent to military school by his homophobic dad. Together, the mismatched misfits light out for California, and discover each other and themselves through a funny and serendipitous friendship.

When I saw this post I thought it must involve actress Megyn Price who graduated from Norman High in 1988 I think.

"The dirty girl" of Norman High School class of 1987? I dated a Norman High Class of 87 girl, she was somewhat dirty come to think of it. :)

Motion Picture Rating (MPAA)
Rated R for sexual content including graphic nudity, and for language

This may be worth watching after all.

I don't know about any movie review that uses the term "serendipitous".

My brother graduated from Norman High in '87, but I doubt he'll be in it. :)

What about a medical review?

I suppose that would be dependent on what was being reviewed though, huh?!

preview for me.

Does Danielle 'cure' Clarke's little problem?

Or at least make a good solid attempt?

87 was a great year for dirty girls..

1987? I do remember picking up this girl in Norman that summer, but the highlight of the evening happened on a picnic table in Purcell. I kept getting freaked out at the cars passing by, but she assured me that it was fine. Actually, I remember it being far better than fine.

Yeah, that was a great year for dirty girls in Norman.

I just watched the trailer. UGH is all I can say. Nobody in Oklahoma talks with accents like that, especially not in Norman, and as a 1989 Enid girl, I can assure you we weren't wearing our hair with Farrah Fawcett feathers in 1987. The director/writer supposedly grew up in Norman, but I am having a hard time believing anyone would consider this an accurate depiction. I actually feel kind of insulted.

I feel insulted every single time they make a movie that takes place in OK. It's always the same **** with accents that have way too much TWWAAAAAAANNNNNGGGG to them.

Not to mention the trailer park. Of course all Oklahomans live in trailers.

Except for those places with the snow capped peaks in the background. Always love those Oklahoma settings.

Mount William used to get quite snowy in the winter.

I can think of two films that, I believe, got it right.

One is the movie Tex, with Matt Dillion, Emilio Estavez, and Meg Tilly. Filmed in BIxby, Broken Arrow, and Tulsa.

The other is Silkwood. Meryl Streep perfectly nailed the small town Okie girl - accent and all.

Tex? Hmmm... never saw that one that I can recall but I'm going to have to try and find it now. The Outsiders is the one that comes to mind for me.

Those were the "High Bangers" in my high school. Somehow, I escaped that look, I just didn't like it, and you didn't HAVE to have it to be cool, luckily.

You DID however, have to fold your jeans in and then roll them up, so they were tight on your ankle. That was more junior high, actually. Didn't last forever, but it was MANDATORY there for a while, right up there with white Keds. Ya feelin' me, anyone?
