Even if you're joking, you're probably right about a majority of people feeling negative about the economy's future. It's why businesses are hording cash and consumers are shutting their wallets.

Our economy needs confidence from consumers and businesses, but in order to get confidence, they need the economy to show promising signs. Promising signs come from... consumer and business confidence. ARGH, endless cycle of fail :(

Speaking of sitting on hands, I gave a very compelling argument for you to try out vBookie that you seem to have ignored. Is it the vEconomy? If it is, I can guarantee you that vBookie has been nothing but vProfit for most vBettors so far. I even vPaid out 25,000 to one guy last week... ALL BECAUSE KANSAS STATE UPSET MIAMI AND NEVADE COULDN'T FINISH OFF TECH! ARRRRRRRGGGGGH!

So anyway, if you could find it in your heart to stop sitting on your hands and try out vBookie, I would much appreciate it.

PS: You too Johnny!

What is in it for me? Well, I put a lot of the vBookie events up, so what's in it for me is another participant to justify the work that goes into putting the events together for all of you to have fun vBetting on.

Shirking... well OK, I can dig deep into my vocab and use that word. You see, I don't want to you to be shirking, I'd rather you stop shirking and participate. There are many who are already shirking and I am targeting everyone who is shirking, not just you.

Just... throw poor badger a bone and try it out just once. If you don't have fun with it I'll leave you alone. :)

You're making a totally indefensible claim. That the government is the only problem with the economy... really, that's just completely and stupidly absurd. If you don't want to be questioned about your completely outlandish statements, don't make them.

Obama seems to be a good father and good role model for people who aspire to someday be able to get an Ivy League education, even if they did not have Ivy League parents. Even if you disagree with his politics, he seems like someone who genuinely cares and wants what's best for this country and for all Americans.

Obama seems like a nice enough guy. Probably the kind you'd invite over to a barbecue and your wife would be pleased that you had avoided your typical alcohol steeped 55 year old sales guy who'd hit on the neighbor's daughter. And I think he genuinely wants our nation to thrive.
That I disagree with him on how to get there doesn't mean that he's cloven hoofed. Hell, it doesn't even mean all his ideas are wrong.
the whole ideological war thing has run out of beneficial results. It's time for all of us to mellow out and see if there's any common ground out there. And, if there's not, then at least take turns stymying each other; like nice children.

Why would you say he wants our nation to thrive? His socialist philosophy is so counter-productive to our culture and history, and counter to human nature, that one has to wonder how an American President could espouse it. Is there REALLY any doubt that his actions are not mistakes, but rather intentional destruction of our economy? I don't believe anyone could be THAT clueless.

Because they throw bombs and don't take responsibility for them. They are only interested in an echo chamber and not dialog. There's no evidence that Obama is a socialist unless of course you want to play the guilt by association game, which if we played it, most of us would lose.

He purchased GM and then sold it back to the private sector. I suppose it was socialist until it wasn't.

And the consensus is definitely that this was a good thing.

Socialist =/= bad, it takes advantage of economies of scale that the private sector couldn't dream of. Are you against rural electrification? Municipal water/sewer/trash? Would you prefer to pay a for-profit entity for your tapwater as opposed to your municipality? If not, you are a socialist.

And ObamaCare isn't socialist at all. The means of production are privately held. You're just required to participate or pay a fine. Not so different from owners of cars being required to carry insurance.

NormanPride
9/28/2011, 02:34 PM
I have no idea on most of those, but I know that when Waste Management took over a bunch of municipalities' trash service they got a lot better. I would have to think that a lot of that would be true for other areas.

But no, I don't think socialism is inherently evil. But it's also not an automatic solution. Any sufficiently large organization can take advantage of economies of scale, but only private ones do so with an eye towards efficiency and profitability.

WM is actually as effective as it is because it's one of the few entities which can take advantage of economies of scale which municipalities couldn't touch. Therefore, it's a heckuva lot better entity, makes a good profit and is cheaper for everyone involved. They can also generally be counted on to adhere to EPA regs better than municipalities could.

Sometimes the private sector taking over is win-win. I don't think the President ever suggested that socialism is the automatic solution to everything.

Or just imagine your city charging you what it actually costs to deliver your water to your tap.

Water service is subsidized in a huge way at various levels. Electric is handled here in OK by private companies like OG&E. I'd rather those companies be government run. They'd likely be much cheaper. Right now, we have these monopolies who march down to the Corp. Corp. every time one of their employees gets a nosebleed to cover their cost by raising fees and rates.
