Oklahoma remained No.1 in the USA TODAY coaches poll Sunday, but Southeastern Conference rivals Alabama and LSU tied for second and began eroding the Sooners' lead.Oklahoma, which held off Missouri 38-28 in Big 12 action, retained 32 first-place votes after getting 50 of 59 a week ago. Most of the voters who switched put gave the No. 1 nod to LSU. The Tigers got 20 No. 1's after a dominant road win at then-No. 16 West Virginia. Alabama, just as impressive at home in a 38-14 romp against then-No. 12 Arkansas, claimed the remaining seven No. 1 votes but was second on 34 ballots to keep a share of the No. 2 ranking.
No. 6 Oklahoma State didn't gain any positions by winning its top-10 showdown with Texas A&M. But the Cowboys did receive 46 more poll points than a week ago, and those gains caused a little shuffling ahead of them as Stanford edged ahead of Boise State by two poll points for the No. 4 spot.
Clemson was the big mover of the week. The Tigers climbed seven places to No. 15 following their 35-30 victory against Florida State, the previous holder of the 15th slot. Clemson's upward mobility will continue if it can win next week at No. 10 Virginia Tech.
No. 22 Illinois was the week's new entry. North Carolina dropped out after losing by a touchdown to Georgia Tech, which moved up to No. 21.

Maybe losing the top spot in the AP poll will be the motivation our boys need.

Yep, all we need to do is go out and win and the rest will take care of itself.

I'm just glad that only one of LSU/Bama can make it to the title game. Sure, a rematch could happen, but the odds are remote. Our schedule would trump any other team if we can win them, so no worries (other than the winning part).

I don't mind letting LSU pass us at all. They have made a good case. Wire to wire is tough. Maybe we can take a break and then get it back after the bowl game. :)

LSU has to play at Alabama so that will get worked out.

In most years not having a conference championship game would put us at a disadvantage; though not this year as the Big 12 has a absolutely insane OOC record this year, but the Big 12 definanatly needs to get back to 12 teams as soon as possible as it could certainly cost us a chance a championship in future years with all 4 other major conferences all have conference championship games now.

If someone makes it through the SEC undefeated, it will be interesting to see who gets the nod for the MNC out of an undefeated Wiscy, OU, and Stanford.

Listening to rivals radio and OU is getting trashed and the SEC is getting love. Shocker. I like it more motivation.

yeah really. When does that not happen!!!!
I want OU you win it this year, but hell I would happy if anybody wins thats not in the SEC this year. Just to break the record and **** the SEC fans up for a little while.

No worries. We didn't play great, but the road ahead is still the same. Win and you are in. If not, you don't deserve it anyway...

It's apparent that we must win more convincingly to remain in contention. If we barely beat the rest of our schedule, we will get jumped by more than just the SEC contender. Just winning is not "controlling our own destiny."

Surely you jest. All we need to be No. 2 to get into the championship game. And the SEC self-implodes its other contenders by playing each other during the year. LSU and Bammer play each other. Bammer has to take on Florida this year. It'll work itself out.

Seems pretty unlikely to have all those teams undefeated. But in that scenario, I'd say OU is the favorite, just from inertia in the human polls, and with the XII doing so well OOC in the computer polls.

I disagree. With aTm, oSu along with Baylor, Mizzou, UT, TT on our schedule, no one could touch us outside the SEC. Even KSU just beat Miami in their house and ISU is undefeated. Heck, Ball state and KU looked like the only easy games.

Not saying margin of victory is everything, but even with an impressive schedule, it counts if we and one or more other teams are close for #2 (or #1). SEC teams have a tough schedule, too, and if LSU and Bama play a barnburner and both sweep the rest of their schedule, it's not inconceivable the loser of that game will be in contention for #2, even against undefeated teams, which might include us.

Just win and we are in... Nobody from the big 10 or pac 12 will jump us...

as much as i loathe LSU - to date, i think they're the better team and deserving of the number one ranking

i've got no problem with them taking the top spot for the time being.....if we win out, we'll be in position to go for #8

So you are saying that even if we win by 3 points in every game, the S.O.S. component will keep us at least #2 in the BCS formula? I hope so and it makes sense.

But, Badger, I was saying that an undefeated SEC winner will end up #1, and that maybe, if we continue to "struggle" then some one else (Wisky, Smurfs, Smart guys) might slip by us into #2.

I don't think we have to worry about a one loss SEC team getting by us, no matter how ugly we win out.

They might *maybe* jump us in the human polls. No way do any of those teams top us when the computer rankings start coming out. The ridiculous record the Big XII has in OOC games this year is a huge boost for us if we can win out.

SEC fans love to say how tough that conference is, sure and that is what makes getting out of it unscathed and reaching the MNC that much tougher. Les has a great defense, but he is foremost a lucky sonofabitch...I doubt he gets out of that without a loss....maybe even two.

1 lost a the very most.

That's exactly what I'm saying, but it won't happen anyway. If we can run the table, there will be some dominant wins mixed in there. Heck, last night was pretty dominant for voters actually watching the game. Spot them a 14-3 lead and then score 28 straight against a decent opponent which good skill players is no easy task. And 10 points is considered a solid win and it wasn't that close. If we are squeaking by with 3point wins, we won't win them all.
