View Full Version : How good or bad is Texas?

OU_Sooners75

They struggled in Austin to beat BYU, 17-16.
BYU is currently losing to Central Florida 10-3 at the half.
Central Florida lost to Florida International 10-17.
Florida Int'l biggest opponent on the season was Louisville. Their toughest remaining game will be against Troy.

So I ask, just how good or bad is Texas?

Yes, I am very aware that it doesn't matter about who played who. But it really is a good indicator IMO, of how good or bad a team may be!

Why do you say this? because Gilbert Grape isn't playing anymore?

Yeah, McCoy has lit a fire, but how long can he sustain it? He brought them back to beat BYU...and then beat a very very very pathetic UCLA game.

Texas could beat OSU at home on a good day, and lose to K State on the road on a bad day.

This Texas team is one we should beat 9 out of 10 times. As long as we don't play terrible, turning the ball over and such, and they don't play especially well, we should be fine.

Personally I'm hoping we play really well, they play really bad, and we hang 50+ on em while pitching a shutout.

Two things:

1.UCLA is absolutely terrible. You could count on one hand the number of BCS conference teams that UCLA could beat right now.
2.BYU lost to Utah 54-10 last week. In Provo.

Hmmm... all bets are off when everyone shows up in Dallas for the RRR. Brings out the best in everyone...

well... except for the 65-13 beatdown in 2003.:biggrin:

This is the year for us to drop a 63-14 style rout on them.

I think they have talent and they are gaining confidence.

I trust that Coach Stoops and the boys will put a little question mark on their new found swagger.

Texass is not good at all. In addition to BYU getting drilled by Utah, they also beat Ole Miss by 1 point who subsequently lost by 23 to Vandy. Vandy would easily beat Texass by DD, and Utah would beat them by 4+ TDs.

We should easily run the schedule from here on out.

We were a 5-7 team last year...OU beat us by 8 points.

Doesn't matter who played who and what the score was.....but, we are a very young team and that will hurt us in the RRS!

Texas is us 2 years ago, and we are very similar to them from 2 years ago. They are playing with a lot more confidence than they were before Gilbert Grape got dumped.

No, they aren't very good, but this will in no way be a gimme.

This is the year for us to drop a 63-14 style rout on them.100-2, then wait for Bob to meet Mack after the game and say "Longhorn network my ***" :D

Utah drilling BYU in Provo kind of shined a light on them in my opinion. UCLA must suck pretty bad, but the horns looked a lot better in that game. I suspect they are going to get better every week with Gilbert out.

I would like to see an old fashioned beat down of them while they are undefeated - shutout 42-0

I hope no karma comes out of this thread. As much as I hate Texas, it's still a rivalry game and anything can happen. I doubt Bob and the boys will take it as lighty as some of us.

They will play hard in Dallas and that's all that matters. It would be great if we could put a big score on them, but it hasn't happened since '03 and I doubt it will this year. If we do deserve a top rating, we should take them by double digits.

I heard that greg davis only took the ou and neb games seriously last season cuz he knew he was out as soon as mack retired, so he was coasting and semi-retired too.

That said, dont worry about last years rrs score. It was one of the few they actually took seriously.

Now, their d talent and boom coordinator are gone. Texas =doomed

no reason to think that's automatic. Mack's guys have quit a couple times in 00 and 03...but, you can count on Texas showing up for that one more often than not.

a John Blake team that lost to Tulsa, Kansas, and TCU already at Owen Field.....beat a ranked UT and future Big XII champs in 96. anything is possible.

i'll take a 1 point W no questions asked. survive and advance. and i can use less of the McCoy honkership that is inevitable......from Brent and "Herbie". Herbstreit sucks. his shouting monotone nonsense is hilarious....."like i said earlier Brent......". he's almost as bad as Billy Packer at that one...."like i said earlier...."

texass has been just good enough to get 2 wins over a couple of questionable teams, and a blowout over one very, very bad team. That said, they are improving and gaining confidence, and now that the QB issue is somewhat stable, they will start to gel on offense. Their D has also begun to get better, but they haven't really play a solid offense yet. But they will need to play the game of their lives to beat OU in the Cotton Bowl on 10/8.

look like a 8 or 9 win to me. they will lose to OU, ATM, and little brother. maybe even missouri.

28-10. That's the score that mattered in that game. Oklahoma is now a disciplined and mature team that is also not fielding an ineffective DT with a serious limp and Landry Jones, the Sooner offensive line and the Sooner defensive tackles are much better than last season and Oklahoma is no longer held back by Kevin Wilson who was responsible for the goal line failures and the performance of the offensive line in the run-blocking department (not Coach Patton). Texas was still playing Oklahoma when Oklahoma wasn't playing very well. That was the same Oklahoma team that struggled against Utah St. and Air Force and lost to Missouri and ATM. Oklahoma was a much different team to close the season and to enter this season. Texas is only a little better and that was fully expected. For anyone that thinks Case is the second coming of Colt, they didn't watch the difference between the two at the prep level and those same differences are present at the collegiate level.

Could you imagine Texass in the SEC? They would literally go 0-8 or 1-7, with Ole Miss being the only team in the entire conference that they would be favored against.

They're decent. Maybe an 8 win team. Good young talent, but as I've said before, they lack toughness, both mental and physical. A team like Alabama would steamroll Texas. Gimmicks and speed only get you so far, especially when the DB's and some LB's are as fast as your offensive skill people.
Don't seem 'em beating OU, and will probably lose to A&M in College Station. Baylor surely isn't a given. Otherwise, the schedule is favorable as they get OSU and K State in Austin.

werent they 3-0 last year before completely falling apart?
